ACTER BEING DENIED FROM EVERY BACK-UP SCHOOL, Peter had one last chance to go to college.

Maia had only applied to MIT, this being the only school that she wished to attend.

So as he swung to Brant's Bookshop, both letters in hand, he felt extremely nervous.

The five of them had all applied to MIT. Peter, Maia, Ned, MJ, and Betty, and they were all waiting for Peter at the Bookshop to open their letters.

Once he arrived, he handed Maia her letter, giving her a quick kiss on the top of her head before sitting down at one of the tables that they had in the back of the shop.

"I feel like I'm gonna puke," Ned says, nervously fidgeting with his hands and rocking back and forth in his seat.

"Please don't, because then we have to clean it up," Maia says with a cringe as Peter reaches out and grabs one of her hands, trying to calm his nerves down.

The girl just rubs her thumb over the back of his hand in hopes of calming him down, mouthing "it's okay," which he sees and smiles at.

When Maia looks around, she sees MJ looking at the two, but quickly diverting her eyes away to anything else.

"She's jealous." The female voice in her head says.

"This is our only shot. It's here or nowhere." Ned says, staring down the letter in his hands.

"Hey! Come on." Peter says, trying to calm down his friends.

"Okay, you guys ready?" Betty then asks, looking around the table as they all nod their heads.

A few seconds later, they all open up their letters simultaneously. One-by-one, each person's expression turns into one of sadness and disappointment.

Except for Betty, whose face lit up as she read the acceptance letter from MIT.

"Oh, my gosh! Guys, this is amazing! We're gonna spend college together in Boston!" She cheers, looking around only to notice the glum faces on everyone else. "Y-You guys got in, right?"

"No," Maia says, looking down at the letter as she tries her best to hide the wave of emotions that threatened to spill from her eyes.

"In light of recent controversy. ." Ned begins to read aloud, his letter saying the same as the other four. "We are unable to consider your application at this time."

"This is so not fair," Peter quickly says, looking around and feeling incredibly guilty for all of the things his friends have had to suffer just because of him. "I mean, this is so not fair! I didn't do anything wrong. And you guys definitely didn't do anything wrong!"
