Chapter 13: The Desperate Dash
Maya's heart raced as they approached the construction site. They could see the society's members gathered around the excavation pit, their faces illuminated by the moon.
"We need to get down there," Maya said, her voice low and urgent. "Now."
Sarah nodded, her eyes locked on the scene below. "Let's go."
They crept down the hill, their footsteps silent on the grass. As they approached the pit, Maya could see the society's leader, his eyes gleaming with a sinister light.
"We have to stop them," Maya whispered, her heart pounding in her chest.
Ethan nodded, his eyes locked on the leader. "Let's do it."
They charged forward, their footsteps echoing off the walls of the pit. The society's members turned, their faces twisted with anger and fear.
Maya's heart raced as she confronted the leader, her eyes locked on his. "We won't let you destroy the evidence," she said, her voice firm.
The leader sneered, his eyes glinting with malice. "You're too late," he said, his voice dripping with venom. "The truth will never come out."
And with that, he gave a signal, and the society's members began to destroy the evidence, their actions swift and merciless.
Maya's heart sank, her hopes dashed. But she refused to give up. She knew she had to keep fighting, no matter what.
