Today, the whole team decided to gather at Babe and Charlie's place to have fun together, following the doctor's advice to keep Babe in high spirits and a good mood, helping him to avoid dwelling on his traumatic past. As they were all in the living room playing board games and jamming to music, Alan and Charlie volunteered to go and refill their drinks, leaving Babe, Jeff, Sonic, and North to continue playing.
While in the kitchen, Charlie suddenly told Alan he needed help with something. Alan immediately gave him his full attention. At first, Charlie didn't want anyone to know, but this wasn't a light matter. He was scared of how Babe was going to react, fearing it might even hinder his healing progress. So he needed to ask Alan if he should break the news soon or wait until Babe was fully healed.
"Uh, well..." Charlie glanced at the living room to ensure he couldn't be heard. "Well, you see, there's something about... Babe that... How should I say it?"
"God, Charlie, just say it. They're waiting for the drinks, you know." Alan pointed toward the living room.
"Okay, so, at the hospital that day when we took Babe," Alan nodded, fully engaged in the conversation, "when the doctor called me to his office to discuss Babe's health further... well, he told me something important that Babe should know, but I don't know how to tell him. I have a feeling he's not going to take it well." Alan stayed quiet for a second to digest what Charlie had just said.
"How bad is it?" he asked first.
"Well... it's, I don't know, 50/50..." Charlie sighed, unable to determine if it was a good thing or a bad thing.
"So it's good and it's also bad," Alan concluded. Charlie nodded, seeing that Alan was struggling to understand the situation.
"Well, the thing is," Charlie decided to just tell him so he could help him figure out what to do, "the doctor said that... what happened to Babe changed him permanently." Seeing the questioning look on Alan's face, he continued, "He's not an Alpha anymore; he's now an Omega..."
Alan's eyes widened in shock, and he didn't know what to say. But before he could gather his thoughts, a glass shattered a few feet away from them. Both men froze as they looked towards the sound .
Charlie and Alan stood frozen, their eyes darting to the shattered glass on the kitchen floor. Babe stood a few feet away, his face in shock. The sound of the glass breaking had caught the attention of everyone in the living room, and they all turned to see what had happened.
The others came to see what happened.
"Oh my God Babe, are you okay?" North said seeing all the pieces of glass scattered all over the floor. The latter did not even move a muscle the hand that was holding the glass was still raised in front of him."Babe..." Charlie's voice was barely a whisper, filled with guilt and worry.
Babe's eyes filled with tears, and he took a step back, his body trembling. The room fell silent as everyone absorbed the gravity of the situation. Jeff, Sonic, and North exchanged worried glances, not fully understanding what had just transpired.
"Babe, wait," Charlie took a tentative step towards him, his heart breaking at the sight of his boyfriend's distress. "Let me explain."
Babe shook his head, tears streaming down his face. He turned and fled from the kitchen, heading towards their bedroom. Charlie hesitated for a moment, torn between chasing after him and explaining the situation to their friends.
Alan placed a reassuring hand on Charlie's shoulder. "Go after him, Charlie. I'll explain to the others."
Charlie flipped his hair and turned around in distress. This is not how he wanted babe to find out. He wanted to find the perfect time and the perfect place. But now that won't be necessary anymore.
As Charlie approached the bedroom door, Taking a deep breath, he knocked gently. Noy getting a reply he knocked again but there was still no response so he turned the door knob, he thought that it would be locked but it was not so he invited himself in.
"Babe," he said softly, closing the door behind him. "Please, let's talk."
Babe was sitting on the edge of the bed, his face buried in his hands. He looked up at Charlie, his eyes red and puffy. "Why didn't you tell me sooner?" he choked out, his voice filled with hurt.
Charlie sat beside him, careful to maintain a distance. "I was scared, Babe. I didn't want to overwhelm you while you were still recovering. I was waiting for the right time."
Babe, wiping his tears with the back of his hand. Didn't know what to even say about this. He was now an Omega. just thinking this makes him want to laugh through the tears.
Charlie reached out, taking Babe's hand in his own. "I know this is a lot to take in, and I can't even begin to imagine how you're feeling right now. But we are in this together, okay?"
"I don't know Charlie, I don't know how I should feel about this honestly... it's too much to take in." he admitted, his voice barely a whisper.
Charlie tightened his grip on babe's hand wanting to speak buy before he could babe turned to face.
"Well I guess there's nothing I can do but accept it right? It can't be undone anyway." There was a weak smile on his face as he fidled with Charlie's fingers.
"So that means painful heat cycles for the rest of my life, wow."he chuckled.
"You have me so they won't be that painful" charlie thought that he was helping with the situation but was immediately met with a glance that made him want to take back the words he just said.
They sat in silence for a while, the weight of the situation settling over them.
Seeing how Babe was just staring into empty space probably in deep thought, Charlie spoke.
"We can consult the doctor about it if you want."
"No. I've been in the hospital for so long they might start to think I'm too weak. So not going." he stated as a matter of fact, Charlie had no choice but to put that thought aside. "Okay."
"I believe they still don't know,"
"I think by now Alan has told them." Babe felt that this situation was so laughable. Because what do you mean that he's an Alpha turned omega. It's still going to take some time for everything to sink in but for now he decides to roll with it.
After some time the two went back downstairs to the others. When they stepped into the living room everyone suddenly halted their activities and kept quiet. It's like they feared if they said a single word they'd be out of that house. So suddenly North found the ceiling very interesting. He started to appreciate the patterns that the architectures put to it.
Sonic somehow found a fashion magazine from who knows where and scrutinized it as if he's in an exam room.
"It's upside down."
"what?!"
"Im saying the magazine is upside down." Babe flipped the magazine for him.
"Where did the board games go? Are we not playing anymore?" Babe looked around and saw that the living room was already tidied up and everything was put back. Everyone looked at him not expecting that from him. They knew thay with this kind of news he'll be in a bad mood. But then again Babe is always unpredictable. So they didn't want to question any further and immediately went back to what brought them there in the first place.
