Ep. 3. The Clip

Alex has been standing and staring at her mom for a while, eagerly awaited for loving gesture from her mother. She watched in suspense and excitement her mother looked around the room.

Alex's mom: "What?" with clear confusion and annoyance in her voice. "What do you want?"

Alex: "A gift!" She smiled.

Alex's mom: "Why in the world would I give you a fu-" she started as she squinted her eyes before remembering the day was May 1st, Alex's birthday.

Alex's mom: "Oh! uhh.." 

Alex's mom frantically looks around for something to gift. Finally, she saw a simple pink hairclip from within the clutter of the dresser. With a faint sigh, she picked up the clip, her lips curling into a wry smile.

Alex's mom: "Well, well, well. Look what we have here." A slight hint of sarcasm in her voice. "See this little clip" She extended her arm towards Alex, showing her the clip. "This is not any normal clip, this clip has mind control powers. And i'm entrusting it on you to keep it safe" She rolled her eyes and went back to the things she was doing. She knew her daughter wouldn't complain about a simple gift if she just made up some story behind it. She looked at her watch, counting the time left to take Alex back home.

Alex's eyes widened with curiosity, she was too fascinated with the clip to hear or understand her mother's sarcasm.

Alex: "Wow, really?" she exclaimed. "Mind control powers? For me, amazing!"

Alex wasted no time in securing the clip in her hair. Grabbing Jaxx's hand, she dashed out of the humble farmhouse, wanting to test out the new abilities

As Alex and Jaxx crouched behind a bush, her excitement obvious, she couldn't wait to put the "mind control" clip to the test. She had her full trust in the clip working. On the other hand, Jaxx remained doubtful.  

Jaxx: "Are you sure this is gonna work? I mean, mind control? Does that even exist?" He questioned.

Alex: "I'm telling you, Jaxx, this clip is the real deal. Why would my mom give this to me if it didn't work?" she said as she rolled her eyes. "Just watch me."

They laid their eyes on a stranger passing by on the dirt path. Alex looked at the stranger with full concentration, giving a silent command to stop. Just then, the stranger halted abruptly. Wide-eyed, Jaxx watched in disbelief as Alex's command seemed to have worked.

Alex: "See, told you it worked." as she looked back at Jaxx.

Jaxx: "T-That could've been a coincidence." He could hardly believe what he was seeing.

Alex looked at Jaxx a bit annoyed. She decided to push the limits even further, she commanded the stranger mentally to turn around and give her a head pat. She was curious to see if she had full control over a person. To her delight, the person obediently complied, their actions mirroring Alex's silent command. A thrill of excitement coursed through Alex knowing the extent of the clip. For a second, Alex could see the eyes of the stranger mirror her own.

Jaxx: "It... it actually worked," he murmured, his voice with a hint of disbelief.

Jaxx watched on in amazement, his doubts erased by the undeniable proof shown in him. But as quickly as it had begun, the spell was broken, and the person snapped out of their trance. They casting a puzzled glance around them before continuing on their way, unaware of the events that just occurred. Alex flashed a smug "I told you so" expression at Jaxx, she couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction at proving him wrong. Normally, Jaxx would have been irritated by her look, but at this moment, he couldn't help but laugh along with her. However, Alex's happiness was short-lived as she began to think about the missed opportunities she could've have done.

Alex: "Aw shoot! I could've gotten a few dollars from that person, it's not like they could have remembered." mumbling in a disappointed tone.

But before she could dwell on her disappointment any longer, Jaxx's voice broke through her brainstorm.

Jaxx: "No! You know stealing is bad. If you become a thief, I would have to tell the cops on you." he scolded her, lightly bonking her on the top of her head. Their eyes locked for a moment, a deep silence in the air. They both erupted into laughter again.

Jaxx: "I'm just kidding! I don't care if you become a thief, you'll always be my friend." he said, smiling ear to ear.

Alex: "You'er silly Jaxx! You could never get rat me out like that" she giggled. "Let's get an ice cream, The plaza is on this path anyways. And I promise, I won't steal and ice cream."

Alex and Jaxx set off together towards the plaza, walking side by side, they were just happy to be friends together.
