Sometime after Dolly's
& Bucky's dance...

"Oh, James, you didn't have to." Dolly turned her head to make direct eye contact with him beside her, clutching his hand. Her mossy green eyes roamed over his face before snapping her gaze back to the bathtub nearly brimmed to the top with hot water. Ribbons of steam rose from the surface, twirling around the room, making her feel warm just from staring at the relaxation awaiting her.

Fragrant and iridescent bubbles blanketed the surface in clustered hillocks, some higher than others. Some popped silently as flickering flames from candles set around illuminated the bathroom in a honey glow that made Dolly want to sleep. It was an attentive and kind gesture but it was also therapeutic to her. It would absolutely relieve her aching, blistered feet from the walking and dancing that had taken place earlier in the night at the ball.

"I wanted to..." his gravelly voice quietened at the end, earning her attention. He gave her a reassuring smile and raised their interlocked hands to his lips, pressing a chaste kiss to the back of her smooth textured hand dotted with tiny blades of hair. "You have taken care of me, Dolly, for ten wonderful months and now it's my turn to take care of you."

"We take care of each other. Always." Stepping forward, she pushed forward onto her heels and went on her tiptoes to wrap her arms around him. He enclosed his thick arms around her, returning the affectionate and endearing embrace with ease. "Thank you, James, this is very sweet of you."

"Of course, Doll."

He craned his head forward and perched his bristly chin on her head of brown hair adorned with posies of garden phlox. James stamped a tandem of gentle kisses on her head and fluttered his eyes closed. He withdrew from their shared hug reluctantly, not truly wanting to let her go but hold her a tad longer.

James took a step back. "I'll leave you to have your bath—"

"Stay with me." Peering up through her eyelashes at him, she added, "Only if you're comfortable with it."

She bowed at the waist to undo her heels but almost lost her balance and tipped over with only one foot planted on the hard oaken floor. James shot out his titanium hand to steady her but quickly replaced his grip with his fleshly hand instead, feeling uncomfortable with how fast he moved it and even just used it. The movement combined with that cybernetic arm brought back memories of how he had utilized it to hurt her back in Russia. He was taken out of his destructive, self-loathing thoughts by Dolly clasping onto that very arm and giving him a look of reassurance that told him she wasn't afraid of it and he didn't need to be either.

The former soldier inhaled through his nose in relief and discarded those thoughts from his mind as she kicked her heels off and pushed them aside.

"I'll stay to help you remove those flowers in your hair." His smile was playful as he eyed her hair. "Some of them are tangled, so they'll be a pain to remove and I believe you don't have eyes in the back of your head to pluck them out yourself without a mirror."
