CH6: THE BIG GAME

Thalia paced in her room back and forth; her heart was thumping in rhythm as the clock ticked on the wall. Finally, the rumors of her dating Soren had finally died down; whispers and pointed looks on her had disappeared, making her feel like she was invisible again. The SorenSurge also stopped bothering her, as Zara warned them as well as Soren. She glanced at her phone, checking the time again and again. She couldn't afford to miss tonight's big game.

The weeks she spends with Soren, Zara, and Thorne make them close-knit and have become inseparable. Despite the rocky start, Thalia had forgiven Thorne for what he had done. They spent countless afternoons together, sharing their stories, laughter, and secrets. She looks at her mirror in her wide jersey shirt. Soren had given her this jersey yesterday as a reminder to attend the big game. She shakes off all the nervousness in her system and starts tying her hair in a bun.

She felt a mix of excitement and agitation as she left her house and headed to the gymnasium. Memories of their recent adventure flashed through her mind. She was always impressed by Soren's confidence and determination, and she is also confident that Soren will win this game.

The gym was already buzzing with energy when she arrived; different cheering chants made the atmosphere intense.

On the left side of the gym are Oakwood's University Torchbearers, with their spirited chants:

Midnight blue on the go!

Torchbearers will always glow!

Oakwood, Oakwood, raise your voice!

We will be your only choice!

Light the flame, feel the heat!

Torchbearers will never be beat!

Torchbearers, make it clear!

We will win! We will win! Go! Go! Go!

The right side of the gym is filled with flaming red; it's Lincoln's High Railsplitters chanting their undying cheer.

Railsplitters, hear our roar!

Together, we will soar!

Lincoln High will fight!

And I will steal your spotlight!

Railsplitters are strong and bold!

We are here to get the gold!

Lincoln High, Railsplitters! Go! Go! Go!

In the meantime, it feels like a battle of chants; she can't help but smile. Each school is supportive of their basketball team. "Thalia!" Zara's voice was barely audible.

"Let's go there! Front row,"  Zara added as she pulled her from the crowd.

As they reached the front row, there was Soren, busy flexing his muscles, which made the crowd scream. She then suddenly heard someone say, "You're so handsome, Soren."  She can't help but feel a little bit of jealousy, but she knows in herself that she has no right to feel that way, as Soren and her are never a thing.

As before the first round of the game began, Soren ran towards her.

"You came," he said, flashing a soft smile and showing his dimples.

"Yeah," she replied casually.

Soren just laughed as he saw how the jersey shirt fit on her. "You look so cute in that," Soren teased as he pinched her cheeks.
