By my second day at Gacha Bakery, I was starting to get the hang of things.
Hendry helps more often.
Lisa's guidance and Hendry's quirky
energy made the crazy environment feel a bit more manageable.
However, there was one constant that made my heart race every time: Mika. Mika was a regular customer, and every time she walked through the door, I felt like the world slowed down. She had this effortless charm and a smile that could melt butter. It was mid-morning, and the bakery was buzzing with customers. I was behind the counter, carefully arranging a tray of freshly baked croissants when the door chimed, and in walked Mika.
"Hi, Komiku,"
she said, her voice smooth and warm like honey.I felt my cheeks heat up."H-hi, Mika. What can I get for you today?"
She leaned against the counter, her eyes twinkling with amusement. "I'll take a cappuccino and one of those delicious croissants, please.""Coming right up," I said, trying to keep my voice steady. As I prepared her order, my mind raced. I wanted to say something clever or funny, but all I could think about was how perfect she looked.Hendry zipped past, nearly knocking over a tray of cookies. "Watch out!" He yelled, flashing me a grin. With Mika's cappuccino and croissant ready, I took a deep breath and walked towards her. "Here you go," I said, but as soon as I looked into her eyes, my clumsiness took over. The cup wobbled, and before I knew it, the cappuccino was spilling all over the counter and her croissant fell to the floor."Oh no!" I gasped, my face turning bright red. "I am so, so sorry!"Mika's smile vanished, replaced by a look of annoyance.
"Seriously?"
she snapped.
"Can't you even handle a simple order?"My heart sank, and I fumbled to clean up the mess.
"I... I can make you a new one right away."
"Don't bother,"
Mika said, rolling her eyes.
"I'll just get something somewhere else."She turned on her heel and left the bakery, leaving me feeling like the floor had dropped out from under me.Lisa quickly came over with a towel, helping me clean up the mess. "Hey, it's okay," she said, giving me a reassuring smile. "Everyone has off moments. Don't let it get to you."
I nodded, but I couldn't shake the sting of Mika's words. My hands still trembling, I managed to get back to work, trying to push the incident out of my mind.Hendry zoomed by, handing a customer their coffee with a flourish. "Extra rizz with your latte! Enjoy! "I couldn’t help but chuckle a little at Hendry's antics, though the laugh felt hollow. Maybe today wasn’t going to be as good as I'd hoped. As the day went on, I found myself glancing at the door, half hoping Mika would come back and half dreading she might. Every time the bell chimed, my heart would skip a beat.Lisa nudged me playfully. "Don't let one bad interaction ruin your day. You're doing great."I sighed, feeling a mix of hope and doubt. Mika was amazing, but her reaction had hurt more than I wanted to admit. Maybe I was just clumsy, awkward Komiku. But a girl could dream, right?
