Hi everyone!! Thank you so much for reading and coming back for more. My apologies for taking so long to update. Life has been doing it's thing.
Special shout-out to @analeese80 who left a comment on my profile, inspiring me to update.
This update is kind of short and I will be adding more to this chapter eventually.
Enjoy!
—Elliot's POV
The week flies by and before I know it, it's Friday. I spend the day studying in the law library and pack up my stuff around 4pm so I can go get Oliver from school.
I board the blue line to head towards North Philly. As I step off the train and onto the platform, my phone rings. It's Mimi.
"Hey Mimi," I say, putting the phone to my ear. I may be divorced from her daughter but I still address her as Mimi.
"Hi Elliot," her thick southern accent calls through the phone. "How are you?"
"I'm doing alright," I say.
"And how's my grandbaby?"
"Oliver is good. He's in school now."
"Already?" she asks. "He's only four."
"Yeah," I say. "I got him into a Montessori school. I needed the childcare..." As soon as the words are out of my mouth, I want to smack myself. Mimi was our main childcare the first years of Oliver's life.
"Baby, I understand your hesitation with Aisha getting out soon but I would never let her hurt Oliver. You know that."
I do know that but I choose to say nothing. If law school has taught me anything, it's that it's okay to keep quiet. Plus it's not Mimi I'm worried about.
"Can I see him this weekend? It's been so long since I seen my punkin."
I weigh my options. Once I knew my ex-wife's release date was coming up, I pretty much stopped taking Oliver over to his grandmother's. Even though I don't know exactly when she'll be released, I know there's only six months left on her sentence.
And it's not that I don't want my son to have a relationship with his mom. Or his grandmother. I just want my son to be safe. I'm so worried about how things will go once Aisha is out of prison and I don't want to take any chances.
"Yes," I finally say in response to Mimi's question. "I'll bring him by after soccer on Saturday. Maybe we can all go get lunch."
"That sounds great," Mimi says. "I know it's hard but thank you. I miss you both."
We say goodbye and I walk towards the school.
"Daddy look what I made today!!" Oliver comes running towards me with a skeleton made of paper. "It's a skeleton that shows bones of the body!"
"Wow buddy!" I bend down so he can show me. "This is so great!"
"I colored my bones blue even though bones aren't blue," Oliver says. He hands me the skeleton before walking over to where his backpack is. A moment later, Zyra comes out to the lobby.
She's wearing a light pink sweater that compliments her skin tone. I look her up and down as I stand up. When our eyes meet, I can tell I've just been caught.
"I... sorry," I say. I'm an idiot and she probably thinks I'm a perve.
"You're good," Zyra says. "I think I look really good today too."
My face gets hot. Like really hot. And I know my face is bright red.
"Daddy, your face is red," Oliver says, putting on his backpack.
