CAPITULO 5: Is It Cat Or Another Cat

I didn't expect where we are right now. An orphanage. I watched Kinsley approach the children running towards her excitedly. The children hugged her. Mukhang kilala na siya dito. Sumunod sa mga bata ang dalawa madre. They greeted Kinsley.

"Ate ganda! I mistchu po!" isang batang babae na parang pinaka close kay Kinsley. She's the one who didn't let go Kinsley. Nakayakap parin ito sakanya.

Kinsley's smile grew wider as she kissed the girl's cheek. "I missed you too, my princess," she replied softly. She pulled the girl into another hug. "And I missed all of you!" she added, embracing the other children who gathered around her eagerly.

I stood there happily watching the woman I admire having fun with kids. Kaya pala. Kaya pala tumungo muna kami sa Jollibee para bumili ng sobrang dami pagkain-buong akala ko mag dadate kami yun pala dito kami pupunta.

"Ate ganda! sino siyaaa!!" a young boy suddenly pointed at me, snapping me out of my thoughts.

They all looked at me. Ngumiti ako sakanila para naman hindi mag mukha masungit. Tumayo si Kinsley karga karga ang batang babae na ngayon ay nakatingin sakin.

"He's my-"

"Jowa! Is he your jowa, ate ganda? He's pogi! bagay po kayo!" ani ng batang babae na karga niya sabay turo sakin.

Kinsley and I exchanged a glance, and I noticed her cheeks turning slightly red as she looked away briefly.

"No, he's not. He's my nephew. He helped me pick out gifts for all of you today. He's your Kuya Vinny," Kinsley explained

Lumapit ako sakanila at tinaas ang dalawa hawak na plastic ng Jollibee.

"Sinong gutom?" nakangisi ko sabi.

Agad sila nag takbuhan sakin at tinaas ang kamay. I laughed as I nodded. Meron isang mahaba lamesa sa labas ng orphanage sa ilalim ng malaking puno. Doon kami pumwesto. I helped Kinsley put every box of food in front of the kids. They all looked so happy with a simple food. First time ko makapunta sa ganito. Iba pala sa pakiramdam na makakita masasayang bata. But thinking of them without parents making my heart ache.

"Okay, before we eat, let's say a prayer, okay? In the name of the father..." Kinsley began.

Sabay sabay ang mga bata yumuko upang mag dasal. After making the sign of the cross, I kept my eyes fixed on Kinsley beside me. Her expression was serene, her eyes closed in deep concentration as she prayed.

"Amen," she said, then our eyes met.

"Akin ay-Amen." sabi ko at umiling dahil sa sinabi at nag sign of the cross.

Nagsimula na kami kumain. I just take a sip in my coke float dahil busog pa ako. Pinagmasdan ko lang ang mga bata na masasayang kumakain.

"Eat,"

Napatingin ako kay Kinsley dahil bigla niya binuksan ang Jollibee box ko na hindi ko binuksan dahil sa busog pa ako.

"Busog pa ako-"

"Kahit na. It's bad to avoid the food." she insisted, continuing to feed the child beside her.

Ngumuso ako. "Busog pa talaga ako. Dami ko kinain kanina e."

Napaayos ako ng upo dahil bumaling siya ulit sakin at sumeryuso. Umiwas ako ng tingin at sumipsip sa coke. I saw she move and get my box. Inalisan na tuloy ako pagkain. Pero ayos lang. I'm literally full-

"Eat this or I'll make you eat it," she threatened.

Slowly, I lowered my glass at what she said. I was shocked when she was already waiting to be fed. The spoon with rice and half of fried chicken was aimed at my face. I swallowed hard seeing she was serious. Ain't kidding, man!
