In their cozy neighborhood, shaded by leafy trees turning with the season, a simple wooden house stood out. Inside, Soomin hummed a cheerful tune as she set the dinner table, her voice filling the air she was surprisingly in a good mood today.

Feeling unusually upbeat, she began to sing a song she'd made up:

" Useless, lazy, that daughter-in-law
Messy hair, always late,Can't cook rice
is she our family's curse?"

Her father, catching her playful lyrics, raised an eyebrow, weirded out by the words. Meanwhile, Grandpa Taesoo, as always, was absorbed in his newspaper, playing Scrabble in his mind with the headlines.

Grandma bustled in with a pot of homemade tofu soup, announcing its readiness in her warm, accented Korean, filling the room with the comforting aroma of her cooking.

"Come on, everyone," Soomin said with a grin, finishing up setting the table, "let's eat."

"Shouldn't we wait for your brother and his wife?"

Grandpa, already enjoying a mouthful of bread, waved a hand casually. "I'll wait for them right here," he said with a chuckle, not about to let food go to waste.

Soomin said without even hiding her smile, "So you're sure she's coming? Maybe she went back home."

"This is her home." Her father replied.

"Is that so? Then why did she apologize in the morning, and why did she leave the dress that I gave her, huh? This can only mean one thing: that girl left and she's never coming back."

Grandma Sunja widened her eyes and exclaimed, "The daughter-in-law left?"

Taesoo, looking up from his plate, said, "Hyesun left?"

Seojun, normally reserved, perked up at the forbidden name in their household. His daughter's eyes softened sadly as she corrected her grandfather, "No, Grandpa, not my mom. It's Haein."

As if summoned by the mention, Haein entered the living room with Jake trailing behind her, arms laden with shopping bags. Soomin's heart sank at the sight of them.

"What is this girl? Is she Satan?" she wondered silently, bewildered by the sudden return and the disturbance it brought.

Haein greeted everyone cheerfully, "Good evening, everyone."

Curiosity peaked, Soomin's father inquired about the bags. "What's all this?"

"We went shopping," Jake explained with forced enthusiasm. "I got Haein some clothes, and we picked up a few things for all of you."
