Stephanie's pov

Sadie and I have been together for a little over six months and even though she wasn't my teacher anymore we still decided to keep our relationship under wraps. I went to her apartment almost every night and even visited her in her classroom when we were both free.

Right now, the two of us were cuddling on her couch in her apartment while watching a movie. She sat on the couch with her arm around my waist as I leaned on her chest. I wasn't really paying attention to the movie since it was kind of boring me but Sadie seemed to like it so I didn't say anything.

Instead I was just thinking and I realized that I haven't really met any of Sadie's friends. She hasn't met any of mine either but since most of my friends went to our college it would be too risky.

"Sades?" I said as I looked up at her.

"Yeah?" Sadie responded, keeping her eyes on the tv screen.

I placed my hand on her cheek and turned her head to face me. "I want to meet your friends."

Sadie furrowed her eyebrows. "Really?"

I nodded.

"Okay. I'll invite them over for dinner on Saturday." Sadie informed me as she took out her phone.

Saturday rolled around and I showed up at Sadie's to meet all of her friends. They haven't arrived yet so I helped Sadie get ready. She cooked the food while I set the table.

Just as Sadie started to put the food on the table, there was a knock on the front door. I sat down in my seat at the table as Sadie went to go answer the door. As she greeted her friends while they all piled in, I started to feel a little nervous.

What if they didn't like me? What if they treated me different because I'm 19 and they're all 28/29? I'm still a kid in their eyes.

Sadie lead everyone to the table and they all sat down as Sadie went back to putting the food on the table. They all said quick hellos to me before starting up their own conversations. I started to feel a bit out of place so I stood up from my seat to go help Sadie.

As I helped Sadie, she gave me a small smile which I returned. When we finished putting down all the food, I sat back down in my seat and Sadie sat next to me.

"Alright, guys. This is Stephanie." Sadie introduced me. "Steph, this is Rose, Damon, Chiara, Caleb, Finn, Millie, and Gaten."

I looked at each person and nodded as Sadie pointed to at them. We talked for a bit before eating. I thought the feeling of being out of place would have ended once I knew everyone's names but it didn't. I looked at Sadie as she told a funny story about how she broke her arm when she was younger.

As Sadie finished her story, everyone laughed. I let out a small, fake laugh so that it looked like I was having fun but I really wasn't. Sadie barely paid attention to me since she was too caught up in talking to her friends.

I looked at Sadie's hand and placed my hand over hers and laced our fingers together, hoping the physical touch would make me feel better. It helped a little but then almost immediately Sadie took her hand out from under mine and reached her wine glass.

I put my hand back into my lap as I started to play with my fingers. I still had some food on my plate but suddenly I wasn't so hungry anymore. I let out a sniffle as I looked down at my lap.

After about an hour, dinner was over and all of Sadie's friends left. Sadie started to clear the table as I washed the dishes. I was trying to avoid talking to her and I think she was starting to realize that.

"I think that went well." Sadie said.

I didn't respond and instead just rolled my eyes. Sadie placed a dish in the sink and she got a glance at the pissed off look on my face.

"Why are you so pissed off?" Sadie asked me.

I shook my head. "I'm not pissed off. Who said I was pissed off?"

"Cause you're acting pissed off. It's ridiculous. These are my friends and they were super nice to you, too." Sadie told me.

"No, I liked your friends. I never said I didn't like you're friends." I shut off the sink and turned to face her. "I didn't like the way you acted around them."

"You were being weird and quiet the entire time." Sadie tried to defend herself.

Is she fucking serious?

"I was not being- Because you wouldn't look at me!" I exclaimed.

"Oh, come on." Sadie scoffed as she put another dish in the sink.

"You didn't ask me one thing the entire night!" I responded.

"That's such bullshit." Sadie said.

"You dropped my fucking hand! What am I supposed to do with that?" I yelled.

"I didn't even notice! What are you talking about?" Sadie asked.

"I don't know any of these people, Sadie! They're all strangers. They're all older than me." I listed. "I feel so out of place. You're the only who makes me feel comfortable and you wouldn't even look at me!"

"I'm catching up with friends! You're literally saying I dropped your hand and I don't even remember the moment that you're talking about, Steph." Sadie rolled her eyes. "How can you be yelling at me for something that I don't even remember? I was doing it-"

"Don't! You're making me feel fucking stupid!" I argued.

"Holy shit." Sadie sighed as she brought me another dish. "I don't think I'm making you feel that way. I think you're making yourself feel that way."

I turned back to the sink and ran my fingers through my hair. I let out a sigh as she continued to bitch and whine.

"It's crazy the way you're acting right now. You were the one who wanted to meet them and you just sat there the entire time." Sadie continued. "I actually had fun. Now this is the night. Now we're doing this."

"You just treated me differently." I said as I rinsed a plate.

"What do you mean I treated you differently?" Sadie asked.

I dropped the plate I was holding and turned back to face her. "You didn't even look at me once!"

"What are you talking about?" Sadie exclaimed as she walked up to me. "I was catching up with my friends!"

"Oh, trust me, they were enthralled by you." I placed my hands on her shoulders, slightly pushing her away.

"I'm sorr- You're literally making the entire night about you." Sadie said. "Holy shit. I can't. It's fucking selfish."

"Oh, so I'm selfish now?" I asked as I crossed my arms.

"Yes! You're acting selfish, absolutely." Sadie told me and I looked into her eyes with a small frown as my eyes started to fill with tears. "Dont fucking look at me like that. That's so fucked up."

I walked back over to the sink and placed my hands on the edge of the counter as I started to cry. I heard Sadie let out a sigh before she started to walk over to me.

"Hey." She placed her hand on my waist and pulled me towards her. "Come on. I don't want to fight."

I wiped my tears as Sadie wrapped her arms around my waist and hugged me from behind. I sniffled as Sadie moved her arms to wrap around my neck and apologized over and over again.

"I'm sorry." Sadie said as I placed my hand on her forearm.

I let out a chuckle and slightly smiled as she pulled away and turned me around to face her.

"I'm sorry I dropped your hand." Sadie apologized as she tried to wipe my tears but I pushed her hands away. "Come on."

"I'm embarrassed now." I told her.

Sadie shook her head and wrapped her arms around my waist. "Don't be embarrassed. I'm so sorry."

I wrapped my arms around her neck and rested my head on her shoulder. We hugged in silence for a bit as Sadie rubbed my back and whispered comforting words in my ear.
