Disbelief etched lines on Maithali's forehead as she found a young woman sprawled on her plush living room sofa, a picture of nonchalance. "Who are you?" she demanded, her voice laced with suspicion. "And how did you get in here?"

The woman, her eyes sparkling with mischief, uncrossed her legs and stretched languidly. "Arey, Maaji," she drawled, her voice thick with a playful lilt. "Before you launch into an interrogation, shouldn't you offer a guest some tea and snacks?"

Maithali's gaze narrowed further. "Maaji? Who are you to call me that?"

"Now, now... Don't tell me Veer hasn't mentioned me at all?" the woman's smile widened as she teased, her eyes flitting to the hallway where muffled sounds indicated someone approaching.

As if on cue, Veer emerged from his room, his eyes widening in shock at the sight of the woman occupying their living room. "Yo...you?" he stammered, his voice barely a whisper.

Yashoda winked at him, clearly enjoying his stunned reaction. "See, he knows me very well," she chirped, her voice dripping with mock innocence. "So, still no tea? Is this the famous Singh hospitality I've heard so much about?"

Maithali's glare intensified, now directed at her son. "Veer, what's going on here?" she demanded.

Veer, caught between his mother's disapproval and Yashoda's unexpected presence, stammered, "Maa, she's... a friend. I'll explain everything later, okay?"

Yashoda leaned forward, her voice turning serious. "There's nothing to explain, Veer," she countered. "Maaji has a right to know." She turned towards Maithali, her voice adopting a conspiratorial tone. "You see, your dear son here had filed a disciplinary complaint against me in college."

Veer's jaw clenched. "You were caught with a gun. The punishment was justified," he retorted, a hint of frustration creeping into his voice.

Maithali's eyes widened in disbelief. "So, you're the girl Veer mentioned?" she breathed, a tremor running through her voice. "The one who tried to scare Kailash a—"

"What!?" Yashoda cut her off, a surprised laugh escaping her lips. " You know Kailash but not me? Don't you recognize Yashoda Trivedi?"

A flicker of recognition washed over Maithali's face, followed by a deep sigh. "Yashoda Chandragupt Trivedi, wo tum ho?" she muttered. "It's best you leave before Veer's father gets home."
