Amari stood at the edge of the rooftop, her breath steadying as she surveyed the urban landscape before her. The chaos below seemed distant from this height, but her mission was clear. She needed to reach the other side of the block as quickly as possible.
Two glow sticks around her wrists to light her vision more effectively, she pulls out her phone.
"Mari, plot the best route to the south side," she commanded. A beep signaled Mari's activation. "Of course, Dr. Akashe," the AI responded, displaying the best route using a 3D model projection.
"How much time will it take?" Amari asked, quickly memorizing the route.
"48 minutes at your current physical condition," Mari replied.
Amari sighed, rocking her head back. Her lips moved soundlessly as she committed the route to memory. "Two left turns, 30 feet jump... one large leap."
Slipping in an AirPod and setting aside her glasses, she sighed.
"Don't you need those to see?" Hina asked, watching her from the some her side of the rooftop.
"I'm blind but not quite," Amari chuckled.
"Hina, this is Mari, my pair of eyes," Amari smiled, showing Hina her phone screen. The animated robot displayed a pixelated face and waved. Hina let out a "woah" and waved back.
"I leave it to you!" Amari yelled down to Amo, who appeared a yellow blurred glow and Ren, a purple one. Amo gave her a wave whilst Ren managed a weak thumbs up.
She turned to pink blurred glow of Hina. "Hina, you got it!" Hina gave a firm nod, raising her glow stick. "Ready!"
Amari slipped the AirPod into her ear. "Mari, when you're ready, give me a countdown."
"20 feet forward," she reminded herself. Taking the necessary steps back whilst Mira began her count.
"3..."
Her heart was racing.
"2..."
The screams increasing.
"1..."
Amari pushed off her back foot, sprinting at full speed. Her arms pumped as her chest rose and fell rapidly. The screams and chaos below threatened to steal her focus, but she relied on her mind to stay on course. The platform of the roof shortened with each second.
One inhale. Nerves bubbled within her. One fall and she would plummet into the alley. Be dragged down, practically blind with no way out.
She couldn't afford to slip up.
Just inches from the edge, she then takes her leap of faith.
And Amari was airborne. She soared over the desperate arms reaching up from below, their hands grasping at the sky for a savior to rescue them from the suffocating realization they might crush each other to death.
To Amari, the world was a blur of light. She had taken off her glasses to avoid seeing the desperation in their faces.
Her time in the air felt like minutes as the wind licked at her skin. Giving her short relief to the pain in her body.
She was floating.
She was flying to the heavens.
Then gravity pulled her harshly back to earth and closer to the screams. She tucked and rolled, landing on the next roof with as much grace one can. Quickly adjusting so her feet were on solid ground. They slid, coming to a stop just inches from the edge.
She let out a shaky exhale, feeling the rush of her heartbeat in her ears. Unaware, she was mere inches from the desperate grasp of hands that would have pulled her in.
"... 12 paces left." Mari voice chimes.
Leaning back, she stood and turned sharply to the left, beginning her count. Her feet moved to every number as she expertly navigated over obstacles, leaping onto a ledge and sliding down a steep side as she recited her cues.
She hopped onto the next platform, blind but attuned to the sounds around her. She could hear Hina's small but mighty voice yelling instructions to Ren. Hina's cheers indicated they had probably saved someone. Pride swelled within Amari, motivating her to keep moving.
"3 steps right" her body moves mindlessly following Maria's direction. 3 feet then Slide, duck, turn.
Suddenly, a loud boom echoed. Another roar came from the side, accompanied by a flashing blue light from Gigantron.
"Hey!"
Stomping is heard, it vibrates the very earth, following by a rush of wind from a swing and sickening crack of a punch.Such rash behavior can only be because one giant man, Ken Sato.
'Glad to know you're finally here' Amari thinks.Gigantron it sent falling, it's large frame... Too large as it's head comes rush towards the direction of where Amari is.
The earth quakes as windows shatter. The battle of giants never was a fun one to be up and close with. Clouds of dust waft into the air, blinding the people and causing more screams.
The rush of wind sent her crashing into a chimney, knocking the air out of her lungs. Her head spun as she staggered, disoriented.
"Dr. Akashe, are you alright?" Mari's voice crackled in her ear, sounding almost concerned.
"...Give me a-second," she wheezed, struggling to get air back into her lungs.
"It'll take much more than that to keep me down," she reminded herself, a determined glint in her eye as she got back on her feet. Rolling her shoulders, she felt a satisfying pop, releasing some tension and helping her regain focus.
"Mari, let's get back to work"
Amari is build different
