JULIET CANNOT REMEMBER the last time she's felt more, what's the word? at ease.
her something-ship with malachi was still as confusing as ever, however she was 100% okay with that, her birthday was the next day, the little uh situation that happened last week still haunted her thoughts, she realised the number calling her all those nights ago had been her mother.
a few nights ago juliet found herself finding it difficult to sleep, so she went down to the kitchen to find something to drink like water or milk.
there she accidentally walked into her father as she was leaving, he wanted to talk to her to get rid of the heavy tension in the house, she agreed and so they sat in the kitchen for a while in silence until her father began speaking.
"i think she was calling me, uh i don't know why i'm thinking this but a few nights ago i kept getting random calls from a number but i never picked up." juliet stammered, her fathers face fell as he began picking at his nails, a habit juliet seemed to inherit.
"i've had calls too, i answered once and that's how i found out she had-" jordan stopped his sentence as he winced slightly.
"so it was her. fuck, if only i answered" juliet felt the grief roll over her all over again, the dryness in her throat, the heat in her ears, how hard it was to breath.
"lee-lee, you can't blame yourself for what happened to maria. at the end of the day she could've reached out, she could've-"
"she fucking tried dad! she tried and i didn't answer." juliet sobbed, her father stared at her with guilt as he listened to her cries.
"i don't want to go on like this lee-lee, i'm sorry for how i treated you these last few years, i'm sorry for ignoring you completely after she left, i'm sorry for arguing with you the night she died. i want to be there for you, but you have to understand this is hard for me too. i had to push her away because i couldn't deal with the pain of knowing she left because of me." jordan croaked out as a few stray tears left his eyes.
she stared at him with mixed feelings, not knowing whether or not to even believe him, not knowing whether or not his word was true.
for as long as she could remember her father and her have never had a good relationship till now, they barely ever spoke to one another and couldn't stand to be in a room with one another.
now that's was all to change, slowly but surely he'd be there for her, standing with her through everything.
maybe he was lying to her face right now, but what motive would he have? what would he gain from lying to his one and only child, nothing.
juliet knew it could haunt her in the future, she knew it would hurt more than anything else. yet at the same time she was willing to risk it.
willing to risk it in order to have somewhat of a normal life, with a normalish family and normal friends.
juliet finally nodded, wrapping her arms around her father with even more tears running faster down her face.
even through the harsh storm that followed the light, somehow the light always seemed to return.
juliet only hoped it would stick around a little longer.
