March 1st, 2013.
Brooklyn, New York.

He sat inside of his beaten down car smoking a cigarette, he just brought from the corner store. His car was the only one in the parking lot, on this rainy Saturday evening. It was now 5 in the evening, but he wasn't complaining. Getting out of his adopted parents way, was always a good thing.

Especially when they would have an argument.

He was wearing a black jacket over his ripped brown shirt, dark blue jeans, and brown shoes. And he also wore a hat. He always wore a hat, to cover up a scar he had from being in prison.

Even though he was in prison for armed robbery. He was only in prison for a short time, thanks to his adopted father.

Chris blew out the smoke from his lips before he flicked his cigarette out the window. As he lifted his head up again he saw a woman go into the corner store, he knew something was up by the way she was staring at the doors, and the way she held her bag over her shoulder.

Chris got out of his car, before he made his way back to the store after the young woman. He jogged his way across the parking lot, after he put his hat in the back seat of his car.

After he made it to the front of the store he took a breath, before he went into the store, once again.

The first time he entered the store this evening was for a pack of cigarettes and a ready meal for himself.... Now it's for a woman. After the door chimed, the owner of the store looked up and saw Chris with his hood up.

Even though the store owner knew Chris very well, that still didn't stop him from thinking that Chris would one day, steal from him. Especially with Chris's record and his family's, real family's past.

The only reason why Chris was put into foster care in the first place, was because his parents are well-known criminals. They ran and left Chris in the care of his elderly grandmother. After she sadly passed away, when Chris was only 5 years old. He went into the foster system.

Chris's foster parents, are now his adopted parents. They made a deal with the system when Chris was only 17, that if they could pay to fully adopt him, they would take care of him.

And of course, they paid extra for Chris to fully become theirs.

In the store, there was only Chris. The store owner, the beautiful woman he had come back into the store, to find. And two more people just getting some last minute stuff. Chris went around the store before he landed in the snack section.

His eyes landed on a beautiful young woman with dark hair. Her backpack was on the ground as she looked around nervously. He could tell what she was trying to do, and thought it was a little bit funny.

"Nobody's coming." He said in a low tone of voice, making the young woman jump and look at him.

"I um—"

"New to this, I see." Chris said, before the woman had a chance to speak.

"New to what?." The young woman snapped back at him. She was not going to let a stranger know what she was planning on doing.

"Don't be lookin' around too much. Draws attention to yourself more. Look around once, or twice if you have to. Then if you know what items you came in for. Put them in your backpack, as quickly as you can and move on. Oh. And don't look so scared." He said, as the woman eyed the floor for a second.

"How do you—"

"Shorty, I'm a pro when it comes to this. The store owner doesn't have cameras here anymore, since they broke a few years ago. So I like to put some stuff in my bag. Then pick something out and go to the cash register, and act like I just wanted that one thing." He told her, before they both heard laughter, coming from the next aisle. "Good luck." He said, before he headed from the aisle.

The woman just looked at him, she'd never seen such a good looking man before. From what she could see, due to Chris's hood being over his head. And to make matters even better, he knew how to steal?. As Chris talked to the store owner he quickly gave the woman a head nod, to tell her to pick out what she wanted, and put it in her backpack.

He was now distracting the store owner while the young woman grabbed what she could, and put them in her backpack. She also took Chris's advice and took something so she could pretend she was buying something, instead of stealing.

The young woman made her way to the register, before her two items were scanned. She saw the price and looked at the change she had, and noticed she couldn't pay for both.

"Oh. I thought I— just the soda can, please." She said, before Chris grabbed his wallet from his back pocket.

"Allow me. I know how hard times can be." He said, trying to sound like he just hadn't help the young woman, out.

"I can't let you—"

"I can't let a beautiful woman go hungry now, can I?. Thanks Rob." He said? Before he gave the cash to Rob, the store owner.

"Have a nice night." Rob said, with a warm smile. Before Chris and the young woman made their way out of the store.

"You didn't have to do that. I don't know when I can—"

"It's fine Shorty, don't worry bout it. You don't have to pay me back." Chris said, taking his hood off of his head.

"Whoa!" The young woman told herself in her head. "Um? Thanks." She said, before she started to walk away.

"Ayo, shorty? My cars in the parking lot. If you want me to drop you off somewhere?." Chris shouted, before he pulled out his car keys.

"No, you're good. Um?—"

"Chris!" He said, walking up to her. "Come on girl. I can't let you walk home. I'm pretty sure it will start to rain, again." He said, before the young woman smiled a little.

"That's sweet of you, Chris. And I may take that offer from you." She said, before Chris started to walk over to his car. "Oh. The names Robyn, by the way." Robyn said, after she jogged up to Chris.

"Beautiful name, for a beautiful face." He said, making Robyn blush before he unlocked his car. "After you." Chris said, after he opened the passenger door.

Robyn thanked him with a small smile before she climbed into the passenger seat. Before Chris shut the door. He headed over to the driver's side of the car, before he slipped into the car and started the engine.
