MOVING TO A NEW TOWN WASN'T THE way blair wanted to spend her summer. she wanted to be out partying with her friends, not packing up her room.

her mother, charlotte, had decided that they were going to move to east highland after another one of blair's suicide attempts.

charlotte was sick of blair staying out with her friends, drinking and doing drugs for days on end. it terrified her not knowing where her daughter was. so a smaller town where she could keep a close eye on blair was the only option left.

she had tried to sent blair to rehab, but she'd jumped out of the car at a red light and had gone on the run for three days.

blair sighed and wiped her tears away as she pulled the photos of her and her friends off her walls. she debated whether to throw them away or pack them, eventually stuffing them in the bin.

east highland would be a fresh start, somewhere she could get the help she needed. she'd find new friends, ones that didn't encourage her alcohol abuse.

she often had extremely dark periods where she would nearly drink herself to death, and if that didn't work she'd pick up the blade. that was her unhealthy way of coping with the dark thoughts in her head, the voice telling her to end it all.

but when she was happy, she was really happy, and she would stay on top of the world until someone said the wrong thing. then she'd flip out, she would scream and threaten to hurt both herself and the person she was threatening.

these episodes scared her mother and her friends, who didn't know what to do about it.

charlotte hoped that she'd be able to find a therapist and some aa meetings for blair in this new town.

"HONEY WE'RE HERE" CHARLOTTE nudged blair to wake her up.

blair opened her eyes to see a large two story house. their new home.

she had fallen asleep on the six hour drive there, and her dreams had been full of worries about starting a new school.

charlotte had gotten one of her friends to move all their furniture with their truck, and they arrived at the same time as them.

"i'm tired" blair complained.

"just help me carry some things inside okay? then you can take a nap on the couch" charlotte said.

"okay" blair agreed, grabbing one of the boxes.

it took them over an hour to get all the furniture in the house, and by that time blair was ready to pass out. so she fell onto the couch and took a much needed nap.

"I'VE ALREADY ENROLLED YOU INTO the high school here

"I'VE ALREADY ENROLLED YOU INTO the high school here. i heard that's it's pretty good, and i think you'll make a lot of friends there" charlotte said.

the mother and daughter were at mcdonald's having their dinner, since they had yet to do the shopping.

"okay" blair mumbled.

she was worried about starting a new school, especially in her last year of high school. everyone probably had friend groups already, so where would she fit in? what if they didn't like her?

"blair, it'll be okay. i know how scary it can be starting a new school" charlotte grabbed blair's hand.

"i'm not scared. it's just, what if i don't make any friends?" blair asked.

"oh honey" charlotte squeezed her daughters hand. "you're a sweet girl and anyone who doesn't want to be friends with you is an idiot."

"thanks mum" blair smiled, feeling slightly better about the situation.

"of course baby, we need to help each other out" charlotte smiles back.

they had been without the help of blair's father for so many years that they were now used to only having each other.

blair took a sip of her diet coke, almost preferring the taste to the alcohol she often consumed.

"mum" blair said.

"yeah" charlotte responded.

"do you think we could get a dog now that we don't live in an apartment?" blair asked.

"yeah, do you want to go look at dogs later this week?" charlotte replied.

"yes, but can we adopt?" blair asked.

"of course" charlotte said.

she admired her daughters kindness and compassion. there were several times during blair's childhood where she'd found a stray cat and tried to bring it home. each time it would break charlottes heart to say no, but one of the rules at their apartment was no pets.

"these fries are pretty average" blair screwed her face up in disgust.

"they are aren't they? let's go home, we'll watch something on my laptop" charlotte said, collecting their rubbish.

blair grabbed charlotte's hand as they left the fast food restaurant. a lot of teenagers hates showing affection towards their parents in public, but blair wasn't like that. she loved public shows of affection, even if it was just holding someone's hand.

hailey...
a little intro first.
i genuinely hate it when teenagers don't want to hug their parents in public, like i hold my mums hand no matter where we are.
