### Chapter 9: Preparations and Unexpected Gestures

As the term break came to an end, Hanako found herself back at Babyls Academy a week before the students were due to return. The halls of the school were quiet, though there were the few students who were here for club activities.

The week before the new term officially began, Hanako and the other teachers had several meetings to prepare for the upcoming semester. These meetings were crucial for discussing curriculum changes, student progress, and upcoming events. It was also a time for teachers to collaborate and share ideas.

"Hanako-chan!" Raim called out, waving from the other side of the corridor.

Hanako perked up at the sight of Raim. She gave a smile and a wave before running to catch up. "Raim-sensei!"

"Oh, I've told you so many times to call me 'Raim-chan'," Raim nudged Hanako playfully. "Anyway, how was the rest of your term break?"

The week started with a series of meetings in one of the grand conference rooms in Babyls. The room was filled with the buzz of teachers greeting each other after the break, catching up on personal news, and exchanging stories.

Kalego, in his usual stern manner, called the meeting to order. "Let's get started. We have a lot to cover before the students return."

The first item on the agenda was curriculum updates. Hanako listened attentively to the changes. Even though some updates might not directly apply to her, it was still important for every teacher to know what was happening. There were some existing subjects that had been revamped based on feedback from both teachers and students.

"We also need to discuss the upcoming events," Dali, who had taken over for this part of the meeting, announced. "We have the Harvest Festival coming up for the first years and the annual mid-year rank up tests for the third years..."

The teachers discussed the logistics of these events, planning everything from the scheduling to the necessary resources. The Harvest Festival was a significant event, designed to help first-year students showcase their skills and bond with their peers. The mid-year rank up tests, on the other hand, were crucial for third-year students aiming to advance in their ranks.

The meeting lasted until the evening. Even though they got off track a few times, they managed to complete everything on the agenda. All that remained was tomorrow's meeting to finalise the preparations.

The next day, Hanako arrived early in the morning, as Balam had asked to discuss a few things with her before the meeting in the afternoon.

'Discussing a few things' was basically a code for their talks about humans, a topic that fascinated Balam endlessly.

The school was almost empty, even more so than the previous day. Perhaps it was because it was still early, and the meetings and club activities typically took place in the afternoon. As Hanako entered the staffroom, she noticed only Kalego sitting at his desk, engrossed in his work.

"Good morning, Kalego-sensei," she greeted.

Kalego glanced up, giving her a nod and grunting, "Morning."

As Hanako approached her desk, she noticed something unusual on her chair. Sitting there was a small plushie—a miniature version of the one that had been crushed by the fallen building at Walter Park. She picked it up, examining it with a mix of curiosity and confusion.

"...Kalego-san..." she called out, turning towards him.

Kalego paused his writing, looking up. "Is there a problem, Suzuki?"

Hanako held up the plushie. "This was on my chair. Do you know anything about it?"

Kalego glanced at the plushie briefly before averting his eyes. "The students mentioned that it got crushed during the incident at Walter Park. I figured you might appreciate a replacement."
