Felicity's Point Of View
Finally, Ari's birthday arrived, and I was super excited for my best friend. The stress and worry from before didn't matter anymore. Today was going to be perfect. I promise that!
As I stood in my room, double-checking the things for our camping trip, I couldn't help but smile. We'd managed to pull everything together despite the last-minute changes. Because of that stupid Jacob. I glanced at the list in my hand, making sure we had all the essentials and some extras for fun.
"Jacob, do we have the tents and sleeping bags?" I called out. Shouting from my room's window that are facing the van at the entrance of our house.
"Yes, Fel, all set!" Jacob replied from the van's trunk.
"Alex, how about the food and drinks?" I asked.
"Got them right here!" Alex shouted back, lifting a cooler into the van.
We'd packed everything we needed, from marshmallows for roasting to a special birthday cake for Ari. I wanted her to have the best day ever.
"Alright, everything looks good. Let's get going!" I said, feeling a rush of excitement.
Jacob climbed into the driver's seat, and Alex hopped in beside him. I slid into the back, making sure everything was secure.
"Ready?" Jacob asked, turning the key in the ignition.
"Ready!" Alex and I said in unison.
As we drove to Arianna's house, my mind wandered back to the past few days. The canceled reception had thrown us for a loop, but it had also brought us closer—or not, I am still annoyed with Jacob. We were— I am determined to make this camping trip unforgettable for Ari.
Flashbacks of our frantic shopping trip at the mall came to mind.
I smiled, feeling a sense of accomplishment. Today was going to be amazing. Ari had no idea what we were going to show to her later tonight, and I couldn't wait to see her face when we revealed the big surprise.
We pulled up to Arianna's house, and I hopped out of the van, bouncing with excitement. I knocked on the door, my heart racing. Hope she like it!
Ari opened the door, looking surprised to see us. "Hey, guys! What's going on?"
"Happy Birthday, Ari!" I exclaimed, giving her a big hug. "We've got a surprise for you!"
She looked at me, her hazel eyes wide with curiosity. "What kind of surprise?"
"You'll see," I said, winking at her. "Come on, grab your things. We're going on an adventure!"
Arianna's face lit up with excitement. "Can you guys wait for me first? I still need to pack"
"Go on! We'll be waiting here Birthday gurl!" I excitedly said to her back. She quickly ran inside to grab her bag, and I turned to Jacob and Alex, giving them a thumbs-up.
"This is going to be the best birthday ever," I whispered to myself, feeling a surge of happiness.
Suddenly, we heard a car pull up behind us, and I turned to see Ari's mom, Mrs. Reyes, stepping out. She walked briskly towards us, and my heart skipped a beat. What was she doing here?
"Hi, Mrs. Reyes," I greeted her, trying to keep my voice steady.
"Hello, Felicity," she replied with a warm smile, though her eyes were sharp and curious. "What are you all up to today?"
"We're taking Ari on a surprise camping trip for her birthday," I said, hoping my enthusiasm would cover any nervousness.
Mrs. Reyes nodded slowly, her gaze shifting between us and the van. "That's lovely. But are you sure everything is ready for the trip?"
