"Ken?" she whispered, the fear of loss gripping her heart.

"Ken Sato is still alive, Dr. Akashe," Mari reassured her, injecting a glimmer of hope into her despair.

That assurance breathed new life into her. She knew she must see him, confirm his safety with her own eyes. Pushing off from her unsteady feet, she moved forward, a slight limp in her walk.

"Dr. Akashe, as excited as you are, it is in your best interest to tend to your wounds," Mari reminded.

She quickly inhaled some air. "Yeah-- I could use some cleanup," she sighed, noting how rough she appeared.

"Amari?" called a voice. A man on a motorcycle, wearing a glow stick wristband, came to a stop. One of the people who helped her rescue others in the chaos.

"That's me," she chuckled, unsure of his name or how he knew hers.

"Oh, I'm Hunter," he said with a bright smile. Coming a hand through his hair "but you can just call me yours" he winked.

Amari raised a surpise brow, "Right..."

"Need a ride?" he quickly added. Amari stilled before she climbed onto the bike, relief blossomed in her. This would save her tones of time.

In moments of disaster, it didn't matter if you were strangers or friends. There were always people willing to help, regardless. Allies she hadn't realized she had.

"You're famous!" he said over the whisper of the wind.

"Really?" Amari asked.

"Yeah, if you need a bodyguard or escort or date--"

"Hey, I can walk from here!" she yelled, distracted by the sight of a familiar face. The guy blinked, she get off without further argue. Tossing him back the spar helmet.

She stops, turning to his detached face. "Thank Hunter and I'll think about the offer but I can't promise I'm hiring"
He grinned, to then give her a salute. "It was an honor to have given you a ride."

Amari returned the salute.

Walking off, she smiled as she saw the bright, energetic Hina standing by the ambulance with an older woman.

"Hina?" she called.

"Amari!" Hina cheered, introducing her to her mother. Hina passionately recounted the rescue, an interesting tale blown slightly out of proportion. It was entertaining as medical support began treating her. She was quickly treated, given the warmest hospitality, and surprisingly, a lot of recognition.

Waving goodbye, she spotted Ren. Her feet moved before she thought, and she hugged him. Ren relaxed, realizing it was Amari, and hesitantly returned the hug.

"Are you alright?" she asked, eyes quickly searching for injuries on Ren.

Ren was surprised. "You came back?" he whispered.

"I promised, remember?" she softly smiled. Pleased to know he was fine, the only new thing was a bandage. "I see you got yourself a battle scar. Perfect reminder of the hero you were today," she grinned. "I'm so proud."

Ren's eyes glossed over as he nodded. Without realizing it, Amari healed a small part of him.

Glancing down, she noticed his hand holding another's, a boy around his age. They had different vibes, as Ren rocked a hoodie and dark aesthetic while the other boy had a soft, croquette core style.

A voice cleared, and her eyes turned to meet another young teen.

"Hello?" she grinned, her eyes meeting Ren's. 'Boyfriend?' her eyes asked, Ren rolled his eyes 'not like that.'

'You saved...?' she asked, receiving a shy nod from Ren.

"Oh, Ren," Amari said, pride swelling as she hugged him. "You're all grown up now."

Ren cleared his throat in embarrassment, being the first to break the hug. "Oh, um. Amari, this is Katsuo."

Amari's curious eyes shifted back to their interlaced hands. 'So cute,' she thought. It brought a smile to her face. Turning to Katsuo, she saw he was shaking with... excitement?

"Oh my God, I love you! I mean Kaiju? Basically, your work is just groundbreaking." Quickly, Katsuo pulled out his phone. "I have a whole channel dedicated to you guys and your studies! Well, I don't have that many followers... But--" He rambled on.

Amari sneaked a peek at Ren, whose face was beet red with embarrassment. He wouldn't dare meet her gaze. Ren tugged at Katsuo in a silent cue for him to stop, but Katsuo didn't seem to get it.

"You never said your mom's thee Amari Akashe!"

"Katsuo, stop. Please," Ren cried, as a few onlookers turned to them.

"I'll leave you two then," Amari chuckled, waving as she moved away. "It was nice to meet you, Katsuo!" She gave a soft smile. "Bye, Ren!" she said.

"Goodbye, Ren's mom!"

"Katsuo," Ren whined.

"What? You didn't deny it," Katsuo cheekily shot back.

Amari just shrugged. Who was she to correct the kid?

Suddenly, there was a honk. Glancing up, she saw an old-fashioned car. Mari, to her request, had sent a message asking for a lift.

Perfect timing at that.

"Mr Sato" she grinned
