In the hushed confines of the ship's belly, Hector Barbossa plotted his mutiny in the cloak of darkness, his mind consumed by thoughts of seizing control from Jack Sparrow. He was convinced that Maria's influence posed a threat to their quest for the Aztec treasure, and he feared that her persuasions would sway Jack's resolve.

Meanwhile, Maria, though heartbroken by Jack's unwavering determination, resolved to stand by him for his own protection. She relinquished her plans to rally supporters to her cause, opting instead to support Jack in whatever course he chose. With a heavy heart, she left her secluded storage sanctuary within the ship, leaving behind the sleeping sailors and venturing into the dimly lit corridors above.

As Maria navigated the labyrinthine passages, a sense of unease gnawed at her, amplified by the creaks and groans of the ship's timbers. Each sound sent a shiver down her spine, heightening her senses to the eerie stillness of the night. Shadows danced around her, playing tricks on her mind as she pressed forward with determined steps, her heart pounding in her chest.

I should be used to the creaking by now! She thought to herself; but a small flicker of feeling deep in the pit of her heart made her worry.

Suddenly, a sharp crack echoed through the darkness, causing Maria to freeze in her tracks. Her breath caught in her throat as she strained to discern any movement in the shadows. The air grew heavy with anticipation, suffused with the lingering echoes of an unseen threat lurking in the darkness.

Brushing aside her rising fear, Maria dismissed the noise as nothing more than the ship's natural movements. Yet, as she resumed her journey, a sudden blow to the back of her head sent her reeling, the world spinning into a dizzying haze of darkness. Pain flared through her skull, and she fought to remain conscious, her thoughts swirling in a maelstrom of confusion and fear.

As consciousness slipped away, Maria's last thought was of Jack, her silent plea for his safety lost in the void as darkness enveloped her completely.

In the stillness of his cabin, Jack lay restless upon his narrow cot, bathed in the silvery glow of the moonlight filtering through the small windowpanes. His thoughts swirled like a tempestuous sea, each wave crashing against the shores of his mind with the weight of Maria's warning about the cursed Aztec gold. He couldn't shake the memory of his father's cautionary tales, the whispers of ancient curses echoing in his ears.

As the night wore on, Jack found himself ensnared in a tangled web of uncertainty, torn between the allure of untold riches and the ominous shadow cast by the specter of the Aztec curse. The flickering candle at his bedside offered little solace, its feeble flame dancing in the darkness like a lost soul seeking refuge.

Suddenly, a disturbance from beyond his cabin door shattered the oppressive silence, drawing Jack's attention like a moth to a flame. With a heavy heart, he pushed himself upright, straining to decipher the muffled voices and hurried footsteps that echoed through the passageway outside.
