(YN pov)

My life is so dull.

I have nothing to do today. No project deadlines or work to do, and yet all I can think of doing is aimlessly walking around town. "Heeeeeeeey!" I hear a female voice yell out. I turn around and immediately get tackled and glomped by someone. I immediately know who it is. "Ruka...was that necessary?" I ask, out of breath. She sits on top of my chest with a playful grin. She's wearing her usual blue hair ribbon tying her black hair, her blue eyes are cute and vibrant as usual, and she's wearing a turtleneck sweater and a black skirt. "Good morning (YN)~" She playfully flicks my nose and gets up. "I hope you didn't run too far to sneak attack me." I say. "I didn't." She says defensively. "The last time you tried running, I had to drag you to the hospital." I say. She sticks her tongue out at me in response. She did that whenever she got annoyed with me, which was often. "So, did you have anything planned for today?" She asks while walking beside me. "Honestly, I had nothing. I was maybe thinking of catching up on some manga I've been meaning to read." I say.

She pouts in response. "You're so boring." She groans. "No. My life is just uneventful." I say. She then looks at me with a bright grin. "You know, we could find something to do together." She says. "Don't you normally have your rental girlfriend duties?" I ask. Ruka worked as a rental girlfriend. Not for the pay, but because of her condition. Since she was born, she had an irregular heartbeat. Her heart beat slower than normal and whenever it beat faster from physical activity, she collapsed from it. So she had been on the lookout for a guy that would ' make her heart race from being with her' in her own words. I don't completely get the logic, but she's dead set on this. "I have the day off. Plus, you can consider this one on the house." She says while winking. What's with her today? She's normally pretty forward despite being just a friend, but THIS forward.

"What did you have in mind?" I ask curiously. "There's an amusement park in town and it looks really fun," Ruka says. "I guess we could check it out." I say. Ruka squeals happily and hugs me again. I lightly push her away. "In the meantime, let's talk about boundaries." I say. "Boo." Ruka says flatly.

(A couple hours later)

Me and Ruka arrived at the amusement park which already had dozens of people mingling around. Ruka looked around excitedly at the various rides and attractions. "What should we do first?" She asks. "How about that?" I ask while pointing to a haunted house attraction. I mainly chose it because it didn't have a line. Ruka dragged me into there. The haunted house was what you would expect: scary noises, flashing lights, and excessive jump scares. A man dressed in zombie makeup jumped out at Ruka while waving his arms in the air. I instinctively punch him in the face. "Owie! That was totally uncalled for." The zombie says while rubbing his cheek. "Wow. I didn't know zombies could talk." Ruka says innocently. "Sorry about that." I say while smiling awkwardly. The zombie sulked and walked away. "I was treated better in prison." He mutters. We both leave inconspicuously and walked around more.

We eventually stopped at a game corner. "Don't worry. I got this covered." I say confidently. I paid and got ready. It was a simple throw the ball and knock over cups game. I throw the first ball and miss. I throw the second ball and miss again. I throw the third ball, which bounces back and hits my head. I groan in frustration. "Here, let me try," Ruka says. Ruka pays and throws the first ball...and knocks the cups over on the first try. I just stare speechlessly. "I did it!" Ruka says while hugging me excitedly. The carnie hands Ruka a big blue teddy bear, which she then hands over to me. "Here. Take it." She says. I take it while blushing. "Thank you." I say, while looking away. Ruka just giggles and continues to walk with me. Doesn't the guy normally do this type of stuff for the girl?

"Ooh, let's go on that next." Ruka says while pointing at the central roller coaster in the amusement park. This thing has to be like 100 feet tall. "Are you sure? I mean, I'd hate for YOU to get scared." I say, while trying to play off my fear. "Aw, are you scared?" Ruka asks me. "What gave that away?" I ask. "You're sweating." She says. She then places her ear against my chest. "And your heart is beating fast." She says. I can't afford to look like a wimp in front of her, so I reluctantly get on the ride. "The moment I get a vision of us dying, we're getting off." I say. "You watch too many horror movies. We'll be fine." Ruka says while placing a reassuring hand on my shoulder. We ride up the first hill. The roller coaster is so large we take like 5 minutes just to get up the first hill. We slowly ride over the top and get a good look at the park. "Goodbye cruel world!" I yell out. "Honestly, (YN)." Ruka says. We survived the roller coaster, but my nerves and heart certainly didn't. I stumble off and kiss my ground. "Oh, ground! I'll never take you for granted again." I say.

Ruka seems completely fine. "How didn't you get scared?" I ask. "I've been on roller coasters plenty of times. My heart just doesn't find them scary." She says while shrugging. "Then what makes you think finding 'the right guy' will get it beating?" I ask. She normally doesn't enjoy discussing her heart condition, but she's more comfortable around me. "It's a secret~" She says while smiling. "If you insist." I say. I finally decide to choose something for us to do and I chose a standing in line simulator. It's literally just two VR headsets that simulated the users standing in a non-moving line. I don't know why I chose it. I guess I felt vindicated that the carnie understood my pain. We bought some chocolate cake and sat down at a table to eat it. Halfway through eating, Ruka shoves her forkful into my cheek. "What are you doing?" I ask. "Feeding you." She says while smiling innocently. I roll my eyes and let her put the fork in my mouth.

"Now feed me next." Ruka says. "This is kind of weird to do in public." I say. "Come on. Please?" She says. I relent and finally stab off a piece of mine and put it in her mouth. We continued to feed each other and I couldn't help but look around at other people's reactions. Most of them were teenagers who were groaning, some of them were parents who were shielding their kids' eyes, and some other people were 'awing.' Do they think we're dating? I mean, at first glace we are, but...wait...what were Ruka's actual intentions with all of this? Before I can think anymore, she gets up. "Let's go on the Ferris wheel." She says, while dragging me up. We get on the Ferris wheel and it begins to slowly move. Ruka looks out the window in amazement. "Wow. I can see the whole city from here." She says.

"Uh...thanks for taking me out on this. I had a lot of fun." I say. "Me too." Ruka says. She then sat down next to me and scooted closer. "Can I tell you something?" She asks. "Sure. What is it?" I say. "Well, the truth is I finally found a guy that makes my heart race. This guy is amazing. He's always so nice and considerate and even though he makes mistakes, I know he means well." She says. "This guy sounds great and all but, who is it?" I say. Ruka then cups my face and pulls me into a heartfelt kiss. I freeze up from shock. I could never predict that Ruka felt this way about me, of all people.

She then separated with a blush spread across her face. "You." She says. "R-Really?" I ask. "Of course, silly. Whenever I'm around you, my heart races. Why do you think I wanted to be around you so much?" She says. "I just assumed you were clingy." I say. She sticks her tongue out at me and I just kiss her cheek in response. "I love you." I say. She smiles brightly and hugs me tightly. "I love you too." Ruka says.

At that moment, I couldn't help but feel my heart race, too.

(I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter. I know it wasn't as long as the last 2 but in my defense my phone broke and I had spend the last few days importing and salvaging what I could to my backup phone which hasn't been fun and I'm nearly at the end of Pokemon Violet: Indigo Disk. I still didn't want to fall behind or go on anymore summer hiatus' so one all nighter later and here we are. Anyway, peace out and stay beautiful :)
