(YN pov)
Another boring day at college.
Just more projects and ramen and me questioning why I'm even here...the usual. While I'm walking around the college grounds, one of my friends, Chizuru Mizuhara, ran up. Except she's in her 'college disguise'. I guess you could call it. She worked as a rental girlfriend, so while she looks like a nerd at college, she threw on some contacts and dresses to appeal to whatever goober wants to date her. She ran up and stopped to catch her breath. "I've been running around the entire place...to find you." She says. "You know phones exist, right?" I ask. "My phone died and then a lot of other crap happened." Chizuru says. "So, why did you need to see me?" I ask. "I need to ask you a favor." Chizuru says. "For the last time, I'm not paying for your student debt." I say.
"I wasn't going to ask about that! Well, this time. Anyway, a friend of mine became a rental girlfriend, and I was wondering if you could go on a date with her." Chizuru says. "I mean, I've got nothing better to do so, sure." I say. "Heads up, she's super shy. That's the reason she became a rental girlfriend in the first place." Chizuru says. A shy girl, huh? I've been rejected by most of the girls I've met up to this point, so this could be a nice change of pace.
(One day later)
She's half an hour late. I've been standing around the mall waiting for her to turn up. I get a text from Chizuru saying she's here. This better not be a prank. I walk around for a bit and run into a girl that was hiding behind a corner. She has red eyes, pink hair that is braided on the right side, and she's wearing a white shirt and a red skirt. So, she's pretty damn cute. Her eyes widen when she notices me. "Um...hi?" I say. "EEK!" She squeaks and goes back to hiding behind the corner. This must be Sumi. Chizuru wasn't lying when she said she was shy. I look around the corner and see Sumi hiding her face, which is completely red. "Are you Sumi?" I ask while walking up slowly to her.
She finally uncovers her face and nods. "Would you like to get our date started now?" I ask. Sumi nods again and walks with me. I hope she gets comfortable enough to talk. Otherwise, it feels like I'm just dragging her around everywhere. Maybe I can ease her into at least saying something. I lightly grasp her hand, causing her to fidget. Her entire body is shaking now. I think I'm only making things worse. "So, are you in college?" I ask. "F-Freshman college...!" Sumi says. Her voice is very soft and quiet. It sounds like she's straining just to spit something out. "Look, Chizuru told me you need to get more comfortable around people and I want to help you with that. Let's start out with something simple. Try smiling." I say. Sumi took a deep breath and softly slapped her cheeks.
She then forced a smile. A pretty unnatural one. "Okay, don't try forcing it. Just try to give a natural, genuine smile." I say. Sumi tries again, but her lip is quivering the entire time. "Okay, that's not it either." I say. I lightly grasp her cheeks and move her mouth up in a smile, but she goes back to her shy frown. "Okay, we can worry about that stuff later. Let's just stroll around the mall." I say. Sumi nods and starts walking with me. I hold her hand again but she doesn't flinch this time, so I guess that's progress. We head over to a bowling alley that's near the center of the mall. I go to grab a bowling ball when I hear some commotion going on behind me. "Ha! You're quite the catch." A sleazy voice comments. "I wish I had a girl like you." Another voice says. I look around and see two guys cornering Sumi.
I immediately grab one of their wrists when they try to touch Sumi's thigh. "Hey, jackass! Ever heard of keeping your hands to yourselves?" I say, while pulling his arm away. The two guys immediately forget about Sumi and start walking up to me. One of them punches me in the gut hard. I immediately fall to the ground and start gasping for air. They both walk away and Sumi runs up to me. "Are you okay?" She asks while helping me up. "P-Peachy..." I say while clutching my stomach. "I couldn't just let them get away with that. I honestly hate people like that. I don't blame you for being shy there are idiots like those two running around." I say, while going back to pick up my bowling ball. Sumi's face is still a blushing mess, but I can tell she's grateful.
