-----Paris, Akashic Guardians Central Headquarters//Director Henry Davis's Office----
Carlyle was sitting back in his father's desk chair. He was enjoying being on the other side of the desk for once. No more running reports for his father. No more of the snide looks from the agents. He was at the top of the hierarchy now, and he planned to only move up from there. He was reading through one of his father's old journals when he heard a knock at the door. "Come in!" he responded. He tucked the journal away safely in the desk drawer.
"You wanted to see me?" It was William Gardner, the head of the Condor Division. Like the agents under his leadership, he shares a similar distaste for the Owls. The Condors often felt overshadowed by the Owls. They do essentially the same kind of dangerous work, but the Owls were treated like heroes. It often led to a lot of workplace rivalry, but nothing besides the exchange of harsh words ever occurred. Carlyle couldn't help the small smirk that graced his face. He was counting on the Condors distaste for his plans to go smoothly.
"Yes, come sit." Picking up a stack of files, he hands them to William. "I'm allocating these missions to your agents." Gardner takes the files, noticing the yellow and red tabs on the labels. Yellow tabs meant they held a potential to be 'harmful' artifacts and red tabs were confirmed. Both of these mission types were supposed to be handled by the Owls alone, so why assign them to the Condors?
"Aren't these supposed to be handled by the Owls?" William opened the red tabbed file on top. He would be lying if he didn't say that he was curious.
Carlyle kicked his feet up on Henry's desk and leaned back in his chair. "Usually, but they've been grounded for the time being." Carlyle said it casually, as if talking about the weather.
"Grounded? Why?" William couldn't keep the shock off his face.
"The Owls have gone unchecked for far too long. They've gotten a bit cocky lately; don't you think?"
William couldn't believe his ears. No matter their petty squabbles, he knew better than to let it interfere with their work. "Even so, I don't think Condors should be taking Owl missions. Owls receive specialized training to handle harmful artifacts. My agents don't have that training underneath their belt."
Carlyle rolled his eyes. He hadn't taken into account William's goody two shoes attitude. "William, it's simple. Most of the time these missions are just basic recovery or acquisition. All the information is here for you and your agents to go through and prepare accordingly."
"Carlyle-" William began to speak, before he was promptly cut off.
"It's Director Davis, William." Carlyle interrupted. He was the Director now and wanted to be respected as such. He was sick of being looked down upon by those he deemed beneath him.
"I don't think this is a good idea." William said honestly.
"Well, you're lucky it isn't your job to think. It's your job to do what I tell you to. If you don't want to do it, that's fine. You can join the Owls in their grounding if you feel so conflicted." Carlyle didn't have time for this back-and-forth nonsense, when he had reading to do. All the answers he's looking for are hidden within the pages of his father's journals, and this conversation bored him. He was the director now; all they needed to do his follow is instructions.
