Thoth. The God of wisdom, knowledge, arithmetic, and many more.
The deity's origins aren't well known to humanity. It was once believed that he originated in Egypt like the other members of the Ogdad and the Ennead, but this was false. Thoth hailed from a society of advanced people, long before Egypt took its first steps as a civilization. His father Thotme, one of the keepers of the Great Temple was the bridge between the children of light and humanity. The children of light were seen as god-like beings to man. They shared with them the knowledge and wisdom to advance their society. The city they lived in was an epicenter of science and philosophy thanks to their guidance. Thoth held great respect for his predecessors and wished to follow in their footsteps.
It was before a great flood destroyed his home of Kaora, that he studied under the entity Horlet. Horlet, the creator of the ten kingdoms that made up Atlantis was a divine that created the children of light. Thoth had gained mastery over wisdom and was granted access to the Halls of Amenti. It was there that he learned the secret of life and gained immortality, becoming one of the children of light. Horlet, in an effort to preserve the wisdom his people cherished, sent the children of light away to establish new colonies as teachers. They would be the guiding hand to help humanity grow. Thoth was one of these teachers, reincarnating every hundred years and sharing his knowledge as he traveled.
It was in Egypt that he was worshipped as a proper deity. With the power of his knowledge and the help of the other gods, they built a civilization that rivaled every other. Humans were a fledgling creation in the face of greater beings, barely able to stand on their own two feet. Through his mercy he gifted them language and science and shared the ability to influence the world around them through arithmetic and philosophy.
This great knowledge was both a blessing and a curse. Humanity was overcome with its own hubris and greed. The other gods had warned Thoth, but he refused to yield. He could see that there was some merit to their warnings, but Thoth knew that if he took away the gifts he bestowed, that would be the end of humanity's potential.
Thoth decided that humanity's advancement would be left in their own hands. He left an Emerald tablet. In its shining surface was carved the secrets of the universe. It was between those lines of texts that the building blocks of creation and advancement could be decoded, if one learned how to read between the lines.
Over thousands of years, the emerald tablet has been lost, fragmented, translated, and lost again and again. Some of the brightest minds have been able to see some of the power the tablets have hidden, but the full truth had never been revealed. Legend has it that Thoth hid a crucial part of the tablet. The stanzas were both a map and equation, for only the truly dedicated were meant to learn the truth.
One thing remains certain, the tablet was lost to time and along with it, it's power. Some say that it's been buried beneath the sands of Egypt, while others say it lays beneath the ruins of Greece. One thing is for certain, if the tablet fell in the wrong hands, there's no telling what would happen.
