May 1997
Maggie laid her head on Noel's shoulder. She glanced down as the white gauze from her veil spilled onto his black suit. It had been an exhausting day. They'd waved all of their (mostly) happy and (mostly) very drunk guests into private cars.
Peggy had been over the moon. She'd had emotional tears in her eyes all day seeing how happy she was for Noel and for her. Liam mostly behaved himself. Patsy saw to that. She'd seen him speaking quietly to Noel earlier in the day for quite a while. They were smiling, gentle. She hadn't intruded. She was glad things seemed settled between them for now.
"That's it. We're married." She said quietly.
Noel glanced down at her with a smile. He gently unclipped her veil and she gazed up at him with those sa.e bewitching hazel eyes that had captivated him at 20 years old.
"Yeah. And you're happy?"
She smiled.
"So far. It's only been a few hours. I give it a week till your breathing starts to annoy me."
Noel laughed.
"A week?! Fuck me you're being a bit too hopeful there. I was thinking 24 hours."
Noel gently traced his fingers over the delicate sheer white gauze and silk of her dress. He'd never seen anything so beautiful as her walking towards him this morning in the chapel. It was like one of those cheesy romance films where everyone else blurred to the background besides her. Except this was real life. His real life. He'd felt emotional seeing her. The love of his life for 10 years. Now, finally his. He couldn't quite believe it still.
"You know when you walked towards me today I cried. Only a little bit. Liam noticed of course. Bastard." He admitted honestly.
Maggie laughed and gave him a shocked expression.
"Fucking hell did I really look that bad?" She teased.
Noel rolled his eyes.
"Fuck off. You know why..."
Maggie looked at the soft emotion in his eyes.
"If this is about thinking I'm too good for you I'm not. We're supposed to be together. We fit. We always have. I might have tried to deny it for a long time but I'm so glad I was wrong about you. When I think back to when we first met... I judged you instantly. Just from what you were wearing. I was a total cunt. You never, ever did that to me. You were always a better person than me. You make me a better person."
Noel smiled nervously.
"I'm...so scared. You've always helped me open up myself to you. I never knew how to do that before you. I was so closed off. Scared. I still am a bit..."
Maggie squeezed his hand reassuringly.
"I know you are. So am I. And I get why you're scared but we'll figure this out together. You're going to be a great husband. You're not him. This can be however we want it to work."
Noel nodded.
Maggie kissed his lips softly and she felt him relax.
Noel held her face in his hands.
"You're so beautiful."
Maggie grinned felling her cheeks flush. Noel always made her feel like it was the first time he was seeing her.
"Not so bad yourself. You scrub up alright."
Maggie said as she adjusted his tie.
"Thought mam was gonna murder me. She said my hairs too short looks like I should be in prison."
