Chapter 10

Yeorin stared at her father

Yeorin stared at her father. He sat on the sofa, a beer bottle that rested on his lap with the help of his grip while a game played on the tv. Dim lights were the only other indication of life in the house.

He was older and thinner than she remembered. In ways, he looked almost homeless. She was only seeing him from the side but it was everything.

The man was so out of it that he didn't even see her standing in his kitchen. He didn't even know that she had trapped him in his own house. Though it didn't look very homely.

She glanced around quickly making sure that everything was just the way she intended.

It was her last most heart aching work but she couldn't let that be the excuse for being sloppy.

Gripping titly on the hilt of the pan, Yeorin walked to him. He was still not noticing her. It was annoying Yeorin at this point and she hit the pan to the wall.

The man flinched and turned to her, eyes widening in fear.

Choi: Eunji.

She hadn't bothered to cover her face and was proven right when he recognised her.

She walked ahead, eyes fixed on him but froze when she stepped on something. She looked down to see that she had stepped onto the remote.

She looked back at the tv to see it now play a movie. Titanic to be exact.

Yeorin: This damn movie.

She looked back at her father who had stood up, holding his gun, fear ridden eyes looking for a way to escape.

Yeorin: Oh... You're gonna kill me now? You should have done that when you abandoned me. It would have hurt less.

Choi: You think I would entertain you here? A murderer? I'm gonna call the police.

Of course he knew... He probably guessed from the victim's names.

Yeorin: Go ahead.

She said with a grin and his eyebrows furrowed.

Yeorin: What? Scared? Okay I'll do it.

She went to grab her phone but he probably though she reached for a weapon as he dropped the safety lock. Yeorin just chuckled and dialled 119.

The caller picked up and they said their famous line.

119 operator: What's your emergency?

Yeorin: Someone's going to die. And I'm killing him.

---

Detective Kim: My father was on this case momentarily as the chief inspector's right hand man.

He muttered while plugging in the USB but Jisung was busy remembering the fact that Yeorin or Eunji, as he learned, told him about a trusty right hand man who helped her.

Detective Kim: Maybe I should call him and ask him...

He continued muttering while reviewing the footage.

Jisung: You don't have the time!

Detective Kim: What?

He asked while frowning and turning to him.

Jisung: You have to get her.

Detective Kim: Fine I can have Detective Seo-

Jisung: No... you go get her.

His frown turned deeper and Jisung's worry increased.

Jisung: Please. Just trust me.

He said while eyeing all the scattered files. The inspector suddenly stood up, pocketing his badge and gun before heading to the door. Jisung hugged the empty bag and leaned back in his seat but froze when he heard the officer speak again.

Detective Kim: You should come.

Jisung: What?

Detective Kim: Come on.

---

The room was spinning and flashes of red and the dimply lit room were pools of blends in her eyes. She was on the floor, her shaky hand holding the knife where as her father lay unmoving on the floor in front of her.

More bright lights started swimming in her eyes as red and blue lights started flashing through.

The door burst open and Yeorin screwed her eyes shut. She had probably been sitting there waiting for hours before she heard more people rush in.

Detective Kim: No wait!

As tears pooled in her eyes she dropped the knife and wiped the first few tears, feeling the blood smear onto her.

Detective Kim entered her blurry vision as he checked the vitals of her father before sighing. He then eyed the word she had carved on her father's arm, throwing him off course for a second but he recovered quickly.

Detective Kim: Bring the stretcher in and take him to the hospital. Immediately!

There were shuffles and more shouts. Yeorin screwed her eyes shut, only opening them when the tears were getting an overwhelming much. She flinched when she saw the detective sitting in front of her. He seemed familiar in her eyes. He had the same soft look in those eyes as the only police officer she ever trusted.

Detective Kim: Yeorin? or... Eun-

Yeorin: Yeorin.

Detective Kim: Yeorin... you-

Yeorin: I couldn't do it... I...

She screwed her eyes shut again.

She didn't stab him like she stabbed every other victim. She didn't why but she just couldn't. It wasn't feelings connected to the man but mostly of her own feelings.

Detective Kim: You do understand that we have to arrest you.

She sat there for a moment before nodding and standing up, wiping away her tears. She pushed her hands forward and soon felt the heavy metal lock around her wrists. The detective held her elbow before guiding her outside the house.

She mostly kept her eyes to the ground, only looking up when she noticed familiar shoes in between all the black ones of the officers. She looked up and saw Jisung in the crowd, tightly holding the bag she had given him.

The longer Yeorin stared, the longer she wondered why she didn't do something to herself. She knew she couldn't live with it. But Jisung had maybe changed her mind.

She gave him a nod and he nodded back shakily before she was put in the back of the officer's car, ready to be shipped off to jail... possibly to a death penalty.

But Yeorin took in a deep breath, a smile reaching her lips. She had not finished her life's goal... but she was satisfied. She was relieved. And that was enough.

 And that was enough
