[Chapter's song: Half of my Heart - Josh Makazo. Listen to it while reading for a better experience! (^-^)]
What was Lui saying? Shu made a deal with Lui so that Lui wouldn't break my bey? And that was back when I battled Lui in the field the day I found out that Red Eye was Shu!
The two boys had their brows furrowed, and Shu was dead silent. "What's wrong? Regret making that deal with me all that time ago? Too late now," Lui lets out a cackle, "And if you don't appear on that cruise, you know what will happen to your little Valt."
"You're sick,"' Shu growled, feeling a knot tie in his stomach. "What exactly will you do to him?" Shu asked, and now it sounded like he actually cared. Wait, did he care?
"He's a big boy. He can handle whatever I throw at him...or throw him into," And a big smile appeared on the boy's face, and Shu knew what he meant.
"You can't possibly mean..."
"Throwing him into the ocean? It's up to you whether or not that happens. Now, if you don't mind me, I'll be heading back home," Lui grins, walking out of the school and pushing Shu back with his shoulder. The albino furrowed his brows, watching how Lui left.
"Dammit!" Shu shouted, punching the locker Valt was hiding next to with force, and if Valt had moved just slightly, he would've been seen. Luckily, Shu walked out of the building full of rage and leaving Valt unnoticed.
The bluenette took a deep breath. Fuck, that was close. What in the world had he just witnessed? Lui wanted to break my bey, and Shu made a deal with him so that he wouldn't. That's enough crazy for today.
Valt leaned back against the locker, heart pounding as he processed the conversation he had just overheard. Shu made a deal with Lui to protect his beyblade? The realization hit hard, leaving Valt feeling a mix of gratitude and confusion. Shu had always been a complex character, but this added a new layer to his perception.
Taking a deep breath, Valt tried to steady his racing thoughts. He needed to get back to his apartment and figure out what to do next. The cruise was just around the corner, and he had to be prepared for whatever lay ahead.
Valt pushed open the door to his small apartment, the familiar scent of home providing a slight comfort. Free's presence on the other hand, caused discomfort.
"Hey, Valt. I couldn't fall asleep so I decided to wait for you," Free said, and Valt found him lying down on the couch with the TV controller in hand. Valt chuckles uncomfortably, looking over at the television and what it was showing.
"Ah, good thing I was quick then," Valt replied, forcing a smile. "Uhh," He looked around, "Wanna chat?" Free leaned back, his eyes narrowing slightly. "Sure, what's on your mind?"
Valt hesitated, unsure how much to reveal. "Just... things have been a bit crazy lately. How's your beyblading journey going? We didn't get much of a chance to talk in the diner."
Free's eyes lit up, "It's been great! The tournaments have been intense, and the training even more so. I've been working on some new techniques that I'm excited to try out on the cruise."
Valt nodded, trying to mask his worry. "Sounds awesome. You're very high up the ranks, right? Any advice on dealing with... difficult opponents?"
Free chuckled, turning the TV off and tossing the remote across the couch and scooching over to give him some space to sit. Valt shuffles around, sitting on the couch and facing Free. "Stay calm, focus on your strengths, and never let them see you sweat. Why, got someone specific in mind?"
Valt shrugged, hoping his nonchalance was convincing. "Just preparing for the cruise. It's going to be a big event."
Free gave a reassuring smile. "You'll do great, Valt. Just remember, you're stronger than you think. Plus, with...Shu Kurenai arriving on the cruise, I think we'll have quite the competition, don't you think?"
Valt's eyes broke from their gaze with Free, and Free's hand closed in a fist, his eyebrows furrowing slightly. Valt's chocolate orbs looked elsewhere, thinking of something to say. "We're leaving tomorrow morning. There's sheets in the wardrobe."
And without anything else, he left the room and left to his own. He couldn't sleep, hands grasping at his blue hair, tears running down his cheeks. "Shu...why did you have to leave me..."
[...]
The following morning, Valt found himself packing some final stuff for the cruise. His thoughts kept drifting back to Shu and the deal with Lui. He knew he had to confront Shu eventually, but for now, he needed to focus on the competition ahead.
Free watched from the couch, offering occasional comments and encouragement. Despite their differences, Valt was grateful for Free's presence. It grounded him in a way he hadn't realized he needed.
With each step, Valt's resolve hardened. Whatever challenges lay ahead, he was ready to face them head-on. They head over to the cruise on Free's motorcycle. Valt didn't want to ride with him, but it was the quickest way there.
"Hold on," Free mutters under his breath as he turns around to look at the bluenette. "Mm, yeah," Valt growls slightly, both hands coming to wrap around Free's back. Without warning, the blonde accelerates off into the horizon.
They made it in no time, and they both took off their helmets. "Thanks for the ride. I told Rantaro and Daigo I'd meet up with them at the docks, so..." Valt began, but Free turned him around with a slight pull of his waist, hand resting there as Valt's eyes rested on the elder's gaze.
"Don't stray too far. You never know how dangerous these activities can actually be," Free mumbles, looking over at a small group of people that were discreetly looking over at Valt, and the bluenette recognized them immediately.
Boa Alkazaba, Norman Tarver, and other members that used to attend The Snake Pit with Shu.
Valt returned his gaze to Free, pushing himself out of his hold, "I can protect myself," The shorter retorted, and Free sighed, watching how Valt left towards Rantaro, Daigo, Ken, and Wakiya.
"He's a big boy. He can handle whatever I throw at him...or throw him into,"
Valt growled. "I can protect myself," He told himself again, putting on a smile as he greeted his group of friends. "Hey, guys!"
"Hey, Valt! You ready for this?" Keru asks, snapping at Valt with his regular energy. "Of course I am! I' ready for whatever is thrown at me." Valt looks at the huge cruise in front of him, and at the top, an albino could be seen, long hair pushed back by the wind.
"I'll reveal the truth...Shu Kurenai. No matter the cost."
