Ch 16: Charge!

Another mess of a chapter, but even sloppy skettie is still tasty. Or something like that lol. The amount of times I rewatched/reread Rookies and the accompanying book to show this segment accurately is insane. On the next round of FNF, may just deviate fully from canon because this was a nightmare pfft.

Chapter 17 will come out in August, 18 in September, and October will finish up with 19&20. From there, Nov and Dec will be a break and TtFR will return in Jan 2025!

While yes this is technically a rough draft, any and all comments are greatly appreciated!

CW: Canon typical violence, Adventures!AU typical swearing.

A special assignment? Membership with a commando squadron but no affiliation with the GAR itself? Lightsabers and telekinesis, but not a member of the Jedi order? Sneaking around in tunnels with no hard answer of how they ended up in the tunnels themselves? Refusal to give a species name or any sort of identifying information shy of a very made-up sounding name?

This Scar was ten different types of suspicious, and Rex honestly didn't believe a word that came out of their muzzle.

He glared sideways at them from within his visor, scrutinizing them for even the slightest wrong move. The second they moved towards any of the shinies in a sudden manner, a stun round was going straight between their shoulders.

Shooting an opponent in the back with intent to kill was cowardly. Shooting in the back with a stun round when the opponent had lightsabers and telekinesis, not to mention untold elemental powers? That was smart.

Were it not for the burden of dragging the seven foot alien up sheer cliffs and the worry that they'd retaliate when they woke up, he would have already done so.

Something was off about them. They'd overheard him introduce himself to the batch of shinies, sure, but they seemed to know more about him than they let on. A seppie spy, they had to be. The moment they got off this moon, Rex would personally see to it that they were fully investigated.

He'd head the interrogation himself if they'd let him.

The last thing the galaxy needed was another Ventress. Rex still hadn't forgiven that Sith assassin for Teth. All the men he'd lost, all the men he failed...

That would not happen to these shinies.

"Care to fill us in on your plan, Rex ol' boy?" Cody asked in a hushed tone as they reached the far side of the landing platform out of sight of the main-door cameras.

"Take a page from the tinnies' book," Rex said.

"Meaning?"

"They stole the armor of one of our brothers and impersonated him. Let's turn it around on 'em." He gestured at the small space to the right of the doors. "You five hide, I'll trick 'em into openin' the doors."

Cody's helmet stilled, and Rex could envision the shock on his brother's face. "You're kiddin'."

"Serious as a Nexu attack," Rex replied.

Cody shook his head. "That won't work. Commandos aren't as dim as B1s, Rex."

"It'll work."

Rex glared at Scar, surprise at their support quickly souring into suspicion. "You're not gettin' any brownie points from me any time soon, Scar."

Their ears flicked back in hurt, but they shrugged tiredly. "Ain't after it."

"What makes you think it will work?" Cody asked.
