Charlotte
"What is this Charlotte?" Vicky, my makeup artist, smirks as she points to the hickey Brooke gave me last night.
"Oh that?" I say, almost stunned.
"It's nothing really. Just some dude I met up with last night." I brush off."He's a very lucky one, have you been thinking about getting serious with him?" She asks as she starts to apply color correction to the purple spot.
My heart starts to pound rapidly. I hate these questions. Brooke and I are keeping this a secret between us and I don't think it was the wisest move of all time to give me this hickey. And speaking of last night, the rest of the night was really lax and Brooke and I stayed in that spot, staring into the sky for an hour or more. And god I just loved being able to lay in her arms without anyone seeing, or the feeling of being judged. Brooke was just comfortable to lay on and I never wanted to let go, but unfortunately she noticed my eyes closing so she decided it was time to call it a night.
We ended going our separate ways immediately after leaving the spot, we didn't want to risk being seen with each other that late at night.
And although I hate questions like the one Vicky just asked me, I can't blame her.
I hide this big part of myself from the world because I know everyone won't like it and I can't help not being liked. It just doesn't make me feel right knowing people will hate me for being me. Plus, I just can't handle all of that with my career at its peak. So, I resorted to being what people wanted me to be. Or at least what they perceived me to be.
"No, it's nothing serious." I laugh nervously.
"I know what that's like." Vicky jokes as she keeps on applying makeup to the spot on my neck.
I laugh nervously, yet again.
God I just want to get out of this chair now."What do you mean?" I ask.
"Well, you say it's nothing serious. But then you end up always thinking about them. I've had a few of those but only one of them really sticks with me to this day." She says.
"Oh, well, this is just one of those in and out things. You know? Nothing serious." I try to play it off. "I'll take your word for it." She teases. I laugh again and my heart starts to feel heavy. Oh no."Okay hun, you're all done!" Vicky says, patting my shoulders. "And don't worry, I covered up that mark just fine, nobody should see it. Not even the camera."
"Thank you Vicky." I smile sincerely."Of course, I'll be out here waiting with everyone for you. If you see anything you want me to fix, you know you can ask." She winks before exiting the dressing room.
As I sit down in my makeup chair, checking out the impressively covered up hickey, my phone suddenly buzzes.
I picked up my phone to see a message from someone I didn't expect a message from.Brooke
Just got done, you ready for your turn?Charlotte
What an unexpected surprise.Brooke
What? The fact that I'm texting you?Charlotte
Yes.Brooke
You're cute.Charlotte
Could say the same for you. Anyways, I'll be out in a second. Will I see you there?Brooke
Hmm, maybe. Are we still on for tonight?Charlotte
Of course. I could never miss a crazy Brooke adventure.I smile quickly before turning off my phone and walking out of the dressing room.
I kind of forgot that Brooke invited me to see her house last night. I guess she had just sneaked it in really well.
