Choosing to ignore Paul's call for honesty, Derek and Casey spent several weeks attempting to avoid each other as they put all of their energy into school and hockey to deny whatever had been brewing between them. To be fair, they weren't just avoiding each other but dating prospects as well. Romance may not have been on their radar, but that's not to say love wasn't in the air on campus.

"Are you free Friday?" While she wasn't going on dates, Casey still needed a distraction on the weekends. She asked Gabbi if she was busy on the way out of class.

"I have plans this Friday, Case. Greg and I are going on our first official date."

"You are?" It took Greg long enough to ask her out!

"Yes, and it's all thanks to you and Derek for setting us up." At least someone was going to have a happy ending.

"That's great. I'm really happy for you, Gabbi. Although, I'll be alone this weekend," Casey groaned.

"What happened with Jimmy?" Gabbi asked, clutching her notebooks to her chest.

"That fizzled out a long time ago. He still texts me sometimes, but I don't see that relationship going anywhere. He's all talk and no action."

"I can set you up with someone else if you want."

That's the last thing Casey wanted.

"No, thank you. I think I'm done with blind dates. I'll meet someone the natural way," she smiled.

"Online?"

"No, in person."

When Casey got back to her apartment, Derek was already there on the couch, eating out of a can of chili with a plastic spoon.

No matter how much they tried to avoid each other, it was hopeless.

"Sup," he mumbled.

"Looks like our closest friends have plans together this weekend." Aggravated, Casey tossed her bags on the couch and her A-plus paper on the coffee table.

"So I've heard. Yet another one of my friends that'll be saying the dreaded word monthiversary in a few weeks. It's disgusting."

"Tell me about it," Casey scowled.

"Hold up, you think it's disgusting? This must be some parallel universe I've stumbled into," he said, taken aback.

"Love stinks. All guys stink. All talk, no action," she huffed.

"That's dramatic, even for you."

"Ugh, whatever, it doesn't matter! I have to focus on studying for the French exam this weekend, anyway."

Studying? Again?!

"We already studied for that. Okay, you studied for that," he said.

Casey's phone buzzed, and her eyes grew wide as she read the lengthy text.
