IT WAS CURRENTLY A QUARTER 'TIL twelve, and dorothea was staring at herself in the mirror. it had been almost three hours since she came up to her room and all she has done is change and rethink her decisions, change again, and rethink her decisions even more. it was an endless cycle that she was now on the "do i really want to do this?" part, about to turn into the "yes, it's the right thing to do." it was a rough couple of hours, but she figured if she wasted this much time on it already that she might as well go.

it took her a couple minutes to finish up her hair, which she was french braiding herself. it was hotter today, so she definitely wanted want her hair off of her back. she could already feel the humidity creeping through her windows. then, a couple more minutes to get her shoes on and get down to her car. not mentioning the goodbyes she had to give her mom and grandma, so by the time she was getting into her car, it was already twelve. maybe the universe was telling her this was a bad idea? she couldn't fall into another cycle that would end up with her falling in love with him, she just couldn't.

then again, the thought of him waiting at their spot alone made her throat close up. she could see the disappointment on his face and she couldn't let herself do something like that to him.

she pulled out of her driveway, heading toward the spot that used to be her favorite place ever. it was a singular willow tree at the edge of the woods in the back of their school—old school. she tried not to visualize this place as much, scared that all the memories would come crawling back to her the second the image popped inside her head. it couldn't just stay away from her.

the rest of the drive was only about ten minutes, and with the amount of times she drove these exact streets, she was sure she could do it blindfolded.

once she made it, she sat in her front seat, staring at herself through the rearview mirror. she had to make sure that her appearance was decent enough for her to go.
