PROLOGUE!
"Come on, Evie! You can do it!" Madame Laurent shouted as Evie finished her practice routine. "Keep that leg straight; point your toe. Perfect."
Evie finally took a breath when she stopped dancing. "Madame Laurent, any criticism? I know I can do better." Madame Laurent had been her ballet instructor for fourteen years, and the only person that Evie took criticism from.
"Non, ma fille parfaite. You did amazing," Madame Laurent told Evie. "You need to stop being hard on yourself. You have come a very long way from being a clumsy five year old. You need to rest now. Do practice by yourself, but not everyday. My daughter is having her baby soon, et cette grand-mère a besoin d'être avec son petit-bébé. Our next session will be in two weeks." This grandma needs to be with her grandbaby.
"Félicitations à ta fille," Evie responded. "On se voit dans deux semaines." Congratulations to your daughter. See you in two weeks.
Evie went to her bag, and quickly pulled on her clothes over her dancing clothes. She untied her ballet shoes and grabbed her sneakers.
"You were the girl that was just dancing, weren't you?" Evie turned around seeing an older man. Her hand went straight to the pocket in her duffle bag that had her pepper spray and pocket knife. "I— I am a dance teacher at this performing arts school. I have never seen anyone— besides myself, dance with such natural talent."
"You're a dancer?" Evie questioned, looking the man up and down.
"One of the best in Buenos Aires," he responded. "I've been scouting for the studio, we need more talented dancers, like yourself. I can give you my card, and if you accept, you'll be in a class with me as the teacher. It's a win-win situation."
Evie grabbed the card the man held out. On Beat Studio. "It's hardly a win-win situation. I'm trained in Ballet, I've taught myself contemporary with videos. And I've been with Madame Laurent since I was five. I'm not going to leave this studio to go to another studio. That's crazy."
"You wouldn't have to," he said. "I can make sure your schedule doesn't hinder with your schedule with Madame Laura."
"Laurent," Evie corrected.
"This can open up many doors for you," he added. "We've been looking at this new dance competition to enter, and the first place winners get to tour around the world. It would be very good for the studio, but we do not have dancers like you."
"Let me get this right, you want me to join this other studio because you want them to win a dance competition and everyone at said studio doesn't know how to dance? How is it a performing arts school and no one can dance?"
"They focus on music more than dance, but you joining the studio, everyone will see that dance is equally or even more important than music."
"You can't make music without a beat, but you can dance without music," Evie said. "Dance is an art that not everyone understands. What do I get if I join this studio?"
"I have connections with some directors who are always looking for new talent; do you sing?"
"Not in front of people."
"Well, get over that little fear, and you can get a spot at the studio. Any other questions, my name and phone number are on the card. What's your name?"
"Evangeline Dubois, I'm sure you'll remember it," Evie responded. She looked at the card again. On Beat Studio. Gregorio Casal, Director. "Everyone will know my name, Mr Casal."
Gregorio is NOT the director. It's Pablo. But when Gregorio was the director for a little bit he definitely made business cards and still has them to give out even though he's not the director anymore.
Also. I don't know French, I used Google Translate. It just felt right for the characters to have a French background, idk.
