"Où vas-tu?"

Evie turned around from staring in the fridge. Her mother stood in the entrance of the kitchen. Evie grabbed her lunch she had packed the night before.

"Nowhere," Evie stated, putting her lunch bag inside her duffle bag. "I'm going out for the day, do I need to have a sign-out sheet whenever I leave the house? Do you actually care about where I am now?"

"When I'm at home, yes. You still live in this house, you are still my daughter—"

"Really? You finally remembered! Took you over nineteen years," Evie smiled. "I have to head to class."

"Laurent isn't back until next week," her mother stated, glancing at the wall calendar that Evie always updated; it was Evie's and no one touched the calendar. For years she'd be the only person home most days, besides the employees, so she had her calendar in the kitchen.

"I enrolled into an extra class, because I was too old for Madame Laurent," Evie did air quotes. "Have a go— you know, have a day. I don't care if it's good or bad."

"How long have you been in the studio?" Evie asked Diego when they walked into an empty classroom. There were instruments everywhere.

"It's my second year—"

"And you're teaching me? Isn't there anyone else who has more experience? Maybe an actual teacher or someone who's been here longer?"

"It's my second year at the studio since I moved here two years ago, I've played guitar most of my life," Diego defended himself. "Somehow you got into the studio without going through the actual audition process, which was three months ago. So you're coming into the term late. Have you played any instruments at all?"

"I played the triangle when I was in primary school. I'm a better dancer than I am at playing instruments," Evie admitted. "What's the easiest instrument to learn?"

"Which one caught your attention first?" Diego questioned, Evie didn't answer so Diego kept talking. "There's many to choose from in here, I've leaned enough of each instrument to teach you. But if you're going to choose any easy instrument to learn, you won't be happy with it."

"Jesus, you sound like I'm going to marry the instrument I choose," Evie stated. She wandered around the classroom, looking at each instrument. "What instrument did you learn first?" She asked standing behind the keyboard near the window.
