The Niece of the Raptor Man

prologue

It was an early October evening and my mom pulled me into the kitchen.

"What's up, momma?" I ask with a small smile. My smile soon fades when I see her face, red, and her eyes huge. She's been crying?

"I-it's your dad...h-he..." she trails off and looks away.

"Mom! What happened!" I shout at her, placing my hands on her cheek, moving her face to face me.

"He didn't ma-make it," she cries and sinks her head into my shoulder.

Oh my God, my dad's...gone? I can't even get it through my head before the tears start falling from my eyes. Earlier this week, my dad was involved in a drunk and driving accident. Now, my daddy's no saint and he was the one drinking. The accident was nasty. The other car caught a blaze and the driver died on the scene. My dads car was flipped into a ditch. He had blunt force trauma to his head and had been in a coma. He had finally woken up early in the morning, around 2am, and they had to do mandatory surgery. Apparently, the lost him on the table.

I let go of my shaking mother and run to my room. I slammed the door behind me and fell onto my bed. I didn't cry as hard as I did when Noah, my once 12-year-old brother, lost his struggling battle with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia two years prior. He was so caring and kind, young too. He had a full life ahead of him. But he had to get freaking sick! My mom told me, as I stood in front of Noah's coffin, "Sometimes, miracles are wishes that don't come true."

This applies to my life in so
many ways.

Now, I know the whole "Owen's niece comes to visit and ends up watches Claire's nephews" is SO overdone, sorry, I just felt like writing one, but I have a twist in mind 😏.
