"Ok, eyes on me!" Owen shouts from the viewing area, his clicker in hand. I stand beside him, watching it all play out. My mom decided that I should go "visit" my uncle, Owen Grady, since she's having a hard time back at home. After my father died, everything went down hill. She asked Owen if I could stay for as long as she needed me to and I know what that means. She's basically leaving me in the care of Owen, which I was perfectly fine with but it still pained that she needed me to go that bad.

"Blue. Blue!" He shouts, getting the attention of the raptor, Blue. "Watch it!"

"Charlie, hey, don't give me that shit. Delta, lock it up. Good!" He waves his hands in the air, motioning towards the raptors.

"And...we're moving," he side steps down the catwalk and I follow behind him. I could be watching from afar, but where's the fun in that?

"Good. That is damn good."

He throws dead rats at the raptors as their reward and I cringe as their mighty teeth clench down on the small animals. "Oh, stop that. It's not like you haven't seen that before," Owen says to me, shoving a dead rat in my face. I gag slightly and he pushes it farther, towards my nostrils.

"Oh, I'm gonna throw up," I exaggerate. Boy, was I right. I lean over the side of the railing, vomiting on the ground below me and some getting on my white Fall Out Boy shirt.

"Aw, dammit," Owen mumbles and holds my brown, curly hair back. When I'm down pouring out the hot bile, I smile a little.

"It's your fault." I wipe my mouth and rub my puke on his shirt. "Oh, that's just great." He squints his eyes at me and brings me down from the paddock. He hands me the keys to the jeep.

"Ok, just go home and get some rest or something."

I shake my head. "I wanna stay with you," I drag out the word 'you' like an annoying toddler and he throws the keys to Barry.

"Fine," he whines and I clap my hands together. "But I'm not putting up with anymore shit alright?" I laugh and agree. We walk but up to the viewing area when a pudgy man with grayish hair slaps my father on the back.

"Great job out there," he smiles and looks over at me. "And who might this be?" He takes a strand of my hair, but I immediately pull it away from him.

"That's Emma, my niece. Her mom sent her up here for a while," he informs the man. Owen and my mom are related by Owen's parents adopting my mom from Maine. So me and Owen aren't biologically related, but he feels like blood.

"Actually, Owen, I'm not feeling too well so can I just meet you back at the bungalow?" He smirks and Barry hands me the keys. Before I head down the stairs, Owen pulls my close and whispers something in my ear.

"You sneaky little bitch." He chuckles a bit and hit him on the arm. I whisper back, "I guess I'm the only bitch you got," and smirk. He pushes me towards the stairs and I giggle. Owen and I's relationship is more like 'best friends' than 'uncle and niece', he's always been there for me.

As I'm pulling down the dirt path leading home, I see the man, who's name I didn't bother to learn, sneak a final glance at me before Owen slaps him on the back of the head.
