Just as despair began to creep in, she spotted a dark shape bobbing in the water a few yards away. Summoning every ounce of strength, Journey swam toward it, praying it was Max. As she got closer, she saw it was indeed him, clinging to a piece of the wreckage, his face pale and strained.

"Max!" she cried, reaching out to grab his arm. "I've got you!"

Max looked at her, his eyes wide with relief and fear. "Journey, I thought I'd lost you."

"Not a chance," she said fiercely. "We're going to get through this together."

They held on to the planks, riding the waves as best they could. After what felt like an eternity, the storm began to abate, the waves gradually calming and the rain easing to a drizzle. Exhausted and freezing, they floated together, letting the current carry them wherever it would.

They drifted for hours before they saw an island, full of palm trees, Max and Journey swam over and pulled themselves up onto the sandy shore, collapsing onto the sand, panting and shivering. Journey checked her backpack, relieved to find her father's map still safe inside, though soaked and fragile.

"Journey... Are you ok...?" Max asked sitting up

"I'm alright" Journey answered, looking around, "I think this is it". She pulled out her Dad's map. This was it, Ember Canyon proved that off to the southeast side of the island was a Canyon of mountains and a giant volcano, no one knows if it was active or not though.

Max nodded, too tired to speak. They needed to rest and regain their strength before they could continue. Journey spotted a small cave nearby, partially hidden by overgrown vegetation. It would provide some shelter and a place to dry off.

"Come on," she said, helping Max to his feet. "Let's get to that cave. We need to rest and figure out our next move."

They stumbled into the cave, collapsing onto the cool, dry ground. Journey spread out the map, carefully laying it flat to dry. They shared what little food they had left, then huddled together for warmth, letting the exhaustion of the past hours finally overtake them.

When Journey woke, the storm had fully passed, leaving a clear, sunny day in its wake. She felt stiff and sore but determined. They were closer to Thunder Cove than ever, and nothing would stop her now.

"Max," she said, gently shaking him awake. "We need to keep moving."

He groaned, sitting up and rubbing his eyes. "Okay. What's the plan?"Journey pointed to the map, now dry and more legible in the daylight. "According to the map, we need to go through the palm trees, North of here, and go to Lake Valoria, our next landmark".

Max nodded, his resolve returning. "Let's do it."

They packed up their belongings, ensuring the map and their remaining supplies were secure in Journey's backpack. The cave had provided much-needed rest, but now it was time to move forward. They emerged into the bright morning sun, the warmth and light a stark contrast to the cool, damp cave.

The journey led the way through the dense grove of palm trees. The forest was alive with the sounds of exotic birds and rustling leaves. As they walked, Journey couldn't help but marvel at the beauty of the island. Despite the dangers, there was something magical about this place.

The air was thick with the scent of blooming flowers and the rich earth, and beams of sunlight filtered through the canopy, creating a dappled pattern on the forest floor.
