Chapter 7

Maya's POV

"Maya, you didn't have to get detention for me." Rebel sighed

We stopped in front of Mr. Matthews classroom because that's where after school detention is.

"Yes I did." I smiled

He smiled back at me.

"Maya-"

"You were defending me, thanks." I said

I gave him a quick kiss on the cheek and opened the door the the classroom. Rebel followed me and sat down next to me. I looked around the room. I saw a bunch of kids who all looked dangerous. Ugh. Lucas wasn't here yet. He's late for detention too.

"Hello bad students." Mr. Matthews said walking into the room

He put his bag on the desk and looked up and saw me. He gave me a smile and I smiled back.

"Well, not everyone is a bad student." he smiled looking at me

"Thanks Mr.Matthews." I smiled

He smiled back and wrote detention on the board. He sighed when he realized Lucas wasn't here and he's supposed to be.

"Does anyone know where Mr. Friar is?" Mr. Matthews asked

"I'm right here, chill." Lucas said walking into the classroom

"Sit Mr. Friar." Mr. Matthews said

Lucas rolled his eyes and sat behind me. Ugh. Why can't he just leave me alone. I looked at Rebel who had his fists clenched under the desk. He gave me a fake smile and turned back to Mr. Matthews.

"I'm going to a teachers meeting. No talking or texting." Mr. Matthews said

He walked over to the door and opened it.

"Rebel?" He said

"Yes?" Rebel asked

"Watch Maya." Mr. Matthews said as he closed the door

As soon as Mr. Matthews left everyone began talking and going on their phones. Rebel and I started talking about our art assignments from earlier when someone came and sat next to me. Again Lucas.

"Friar get away from Maya." Rebel warned

Lucas smirked and rolled his eyes.

"You don't scare me, Rebel." Lucas said

Rebel stood up and I grabbed his arm. I gave him a look to sit back down and he did. I smiled at him and he smiled back.

"Ugh. Why do keep smiling at each other?" Lucas asked

Is he, jealous? I looked at Rebel and got an idea.

"Because we're in love." I said grabbing Rebel's hand and holding it

"What?" Lucas asked shocked

"Maya, what are you doing?" Rebel whispered

"Just go with it." I whispered back

We faced Lucas again. He looks shocked and kinda disappointed. Yes! I think it worked.

"Prove it." Lucas smirked

Crap. I looked at Rebel. He put his right hand on the side of my face and leaned in just as we were about to kiss the door opened.

"Rebel?! Maya?!" Mr. Matthews yelled

Everyone's eyes were on us. We both jumped up and Lucas looked amused. He's such an asshole.

"Rebel I told you to watch her, not make out with her!" Mr. Matthews yelled

"Mr. Matthews I can explain." Rebel said

"Explain now." Mr. Matthews commanded

"Well, it was part of Maya's plan to get Lucas to leave her alone." Rebel said

Lucas stood up and smirked at me.

"I knew you were lying about loving him!" Lucas said

"LOVE?!" Mr. Matthews shouted

"Mr. Matthews it was fake." I said

"Maya I texted Riley to come get you. I knew that you just got in detention for Rebel, but I didn't know why." Mr. Matthews said disappointed

"No! It was just a plan to get Friar to leave me alone! Rebel and I are not in love!" I shouted

Mr. Matthews just nodded. I was going to tell him why I wanted to get detention for Rebel, but the door opened. Riley came into the room and looked around. She sighed when she saw me.

"I'm supposed to keep you OUT of trouble." she said

"Sorry." I said looking down

"Let's go home." Riley said linking my arm with hers

"I'll text you later Rebel." I said walking out of the room

"Nooooooo!" Mr. Matthews yelled

Riley and I giggled and we walking out of the classroom. We sat on the subway on the way to her house.

"My dad is overprotective." Riley said

I laughed.

"Really?" I said sarcastically

We laughed.

"He doesn't hate Rebel or anything he just doesn't want us dating yet." Riley said

"Riles, you have a boyfriend." I said

"I know, but it's Farkle. He's known Farkle ever sense we were little. He doesn't know Rebel or Lucas." Riley said

I gave her a weird look and she giggled.

"Lucas and I are NEVER going to date. Your dad doesn't have to worry about him." I scoffed

"I should really tell him that." Riley said

"You should." I said

We smiled at each other and rode the subway back to her apartment peacefully.
