The school year had flown by, and summer break was finally here. Wei Ying stood outside her house, her suitcase beside her, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. Lan Zhan had invited her to spend the summer at his family’s resort, a beautiful place nestled by a serene lake, and she had eagerly accepted. Now, as she waited for Lan Zhan and his parents to pick her up, she couldn't help but feel a flutter of anticipation.

A sleek black SUV pulled up, and Lan Zhan hopped out, grinning widely. "Hey, Wei Ying! Ready for an unforgettable summer?"

Wei Ying smiled back, her nerves easing a bit. "Absolutely!"

Lan Zhan helped her load her suitcase into the trunk and introduced her to his parents, who greeted her warmly. "We're so happy to have you join us, Wei Ying," said Mrs. Lan, her kind eyes crinkling at the corners.

The drive to the resort was filled with lively conversation and laughter. Lan Zhan's parents were easygoing and friendly, making Wei Ying feel right at home. As they neared the resort, the scenery changed to lush greenery and sparkling blue water. The resort itself was a charming collection of cabins and main buildings, all designed to blend harmoniously with the natural surroundings.

"We're here!" Lan Zhan announced as they pulled up to the main lodge. "Come on, I'll show you around."

Wei Ying marveled at the beauty of the place. The air was fresh and clean, filled with the scent of pine and wildflowers. Lan Zhan led her to a cozy cabin that would be her home for the next few weeks. It was charming and rustic, with a porch that offered a stunning view of the lake.

"This is amazing," Wei Ying said, taking in the view.

"I'm glad you like it," Lan Zhan replied. "Let's get your stuff settled, and then we can explore."

After unpacking, they set off to explore the resort. Lan Zhan showed her the various amenities: a boathouse with kayaks and canoes, a tennis court, a swimming pool, and several hiking trails that wound through the surrounding woods. Everywhere they went, staff members greeted them warmly, clearly fond of Lan Zhan and his family.

That evening, they gathered with Lan Zhan's family and other guests for a barbecue by the lake. As the sun set, painting the sky with hues of orange and pink, they enjoyed delicious food and shared stories around the fire. Lan Zhan's parents were excellent hosts, making sure everyone felt welcome and included.

Later, as the fire died down and the stars began to twinkle overhead, Lan Zhan and Wei Ying  wandered down to the lake’s edge. The water was calm, reflecting the starlit sky like a mirror.

"It's so beautiful here," Wei Ying said softly, looking out over the water.

Lan Zhan nodded. "Yeah, it is. I’ve always loved spending summers here. I’m really glad you could come this year."

Wei Ying turned to him, her heart swelling with affection. "Me too. Thank you for inviting me."

They stood in comfortable silence for a moment, just enjoying each other’s company. Then, with a mischievous glint in his eye, Lan Zhan nudged her playfully.

"Want to race to the dock?"

Wei Ying laughed. "You're on!"

They took off running, their laughter echoing across the water. Lan Zhan reached the dock first, but Wei Lyn was close behind, breathless and grinning. They collapsed onto the wooden planks, panting and laughing.

"You’re fast!" Wei Ying said, still catching her breath.

Lan Zhan shrugged modestly. "I’ve had a lot of practice. But you’re pretty quick yourself."

As they lay there, gazing up at the stars, Lan Zhan’s hand found hers. Wei Ying's heart skipped a beat, but she didn’t pull away. Instead, she squeezed his hand gently, feeling a warmth spread through her.

"This summer is going to be special," Lan Zhan said quietly.

Wei Ying nodded, her heart full.

"I think so too."

They stayed on the dock for a while longer, talking about their hopes and dreams, sharing stories and secrets. The bond between them grew stronger with each passing moment, the lake and the stars their silent witnesses.

As they walked back to the cabin, hand in hand, Wei Ying felt a sense of contentment she had never known before. She knew this summer would be one to remember, not just for the beauty of the place, but for the moments she would share with Lan Zhan, moments that would bring them closer together than ever before.

And so, their summer at the resort began, filled with laughter, adventure, and the blossoming of young love.
