I awoke to a bright light, my eyes finally opening for once. Breathing felt much easier, but my throat was left dry. I couldn't feel my legs from the knee down, but I felt a blanket sprawled over them. My right hand was incredibly sore and wrapped up in densely pressed fabric, it felt. My whole body ached in general.
My mind felt foggy, and my vision was slightly blurred.
From what I could see looking at the ceiling, the room was lit with two bright candle stands, one on each side of the bed I was laying on. The room was made of stone. I couldn't tell where I was exactly, but I knew that it definitely wasn't a place I'd been before.
I pulled my energy together to lift my head. I looked at myself, underneath a heavy blanket. I couldn't see my hands, but there was a cast around both of my feet. Great start...
I let my head fall back down onto the soft pillow beneath it. How did I get here again..? Right, I fell.
Dang it, Adamai will kill me.
I heard a door being opened followed by the feet of two individuals. I recognized Adamai's voice first.
"I told you I knew that he was conscious!" the dragon exclaimed, "I felt his wakfu change, and look! He's awake!"
"Shut up and stay at the door, please, we don't have time for this," the other person said, whom I assumed would most likely be an Eniripsa. Judging by his voice, the guy walked over and looked at me sternly.
"Xenlyr..." I coughed out, my voice most likely uncomprehensive. He swept a bang of hair out of his eyes and brought over a glass of water for me.
"Can you lift your arm for me?" he asked next. I lifted both of them and watched as he nodded, "Here, hydrate." I took the small glass and drank it slowly, letting the cold flow soften my throat.
"Thank you," I whispered. He only nodded, looking to be concerned about something else. He walked out of my view in the direction of where Adamai was.
After a moment of silence, Xenlyr sighed, "Did you feel that?"
"Feel what...?"
"Great. Just great," he said aggressively. I heard the blanket on my legs moving around as he bent back down to work.
"Xenlyr, is he-?"
"Please, stop distracting me," he interrupted Adamai, "I have enough on my plate already, and I'm getting sick of fixing up your brother. He needs stop trying to crush his limbs."
"It's not his fault that the fire broke out and he was in it..." I heard Adamai trail off, quieting down as Xenlyr ignored him. I heard Xenlyr untie a rope of some sorts and throw it to the side.
"Ah, shushu. Just what I needed," Xenlyr spat aggressively. He shouted over to me, "Hey, King Yugo, lift your leg." I followed as he instructed. He sighed.
"The whole thing, please."
I lifted my leg higher, confused.
"Can you not feel your lower legs?"
"No, how could you-"
"It doesn't matter. Go back to sleep before your brother gets me fired," he said, quickly strutting out the door. He slammed it shut, and I was left in silence.
