Ghost watched Hornet show Lifeblood around the Capitol with a twinge of jealousy. He loved hanging around with his siblings, but he knew this was good for the both of them. Sure he hadn't been the nicest to Lifeblood when he returned, but in his defense, Broken Vessel had tried to kill him on sight.

"Ghost?"

He turned back to Marissa. The songstress, sweet and quiet, always had a worried, almost fearful expression on her face around him. He guessed because she knew he had slain the other spirits, and knew he could always do the same to her.

He would never though, but she could never understand him. "Are you alright?" He nodded quickly and continued to watch the Hollow Knight memorial fountain being restored. Marissa continued working on a new song beside him.

His shade fluttered around happily inside when one of her long, delicate wings furled around him. A few moments passed in which he thought about her.

He wished he could tell her how much he wanted her, how bad he wanted a future where they could live together. They could spend the rest of their time here, in the City of Tears, settle down and- "Ghost?" She interrupted his thoughts. He turned to her.

"Do you love me?"

He froze. He should have been more careful. He knew how well she could read his thoughts. As seconds passed, he just sat there, stiffening up even more. "I just noticed-" He spun into his shade form and zipped out of sight. He felt so embarrassed.

But Ghost didn't want to tell her: what if she didn't like him? What if by telling her, he would get his heart broken, and ruin their friendship by making everything awkward? He entered a bench room, sat down, and fell asleep, trying not to dream about him messing up his relationship.

Two Hours Later...

"Little Ghost?" He hated when Hornet called him that. Ghost opened his eyes to find Hornet slouching against the wall. He cocked his head. "Marissa's been looking for you. I told her I'd bring you back." He shrugs. "Just tell her you like her. She likes you."

He shook his head. Hornet grabbed his head and turned it toward hers. "Ghost, if you're not going to do it now, when? You won't mess it up, I know you won't." She sighed, shot him a hopeful look, and left. And he knew she was right. After all, he couldn't hide forever.

He trudged back, and his shade gave a little jump when Marissa lit up as she saw him. "I'm sorry Ghost I didn't mean to-" He nodded. "...yes to what?" He motioned to where he had come from. "You...," She tried to translate what he was trying to say.

"My question?" He nodded. "You...you like me?" She asked softly. This was it. He nodded one last time. She wrapped her wings around him in a tight embrace. "Ghost?" He looked at her shyly. "I love you too."
