Abu swooped into the market. He snagged an expensive gold goblet from a random man, then stole a piece of bread from a bread stall. Jamal noticed this and ran after him.
"Come back here, you filthy monkey!" He screamed. The guards guarding the market raced after them. Abu scrambled towards a cart of wheat and jumped on it as it wheeled away. He got off in front of Zulla's shop, where Aladdin was exiting.
"Abu? What's wrong?" Aladdin asked. He turned to see Jamal chasing him. "Woah, Jamal! What's wrong?"
"Your filthy monkey stole bread from my brother's shop! You are a street rat, after all. I don't see what the new sultan sees in you, filth!" Jamal shrieked. He walked away, the guards behind him. Aladdin stood still, taking in Jamal's words. He was a street rat. What did Jasmine see in him? He was a filthy peasant. A street thief. And yet the sultan married him.
Aladdin headed home, with Abu on his shoulder. The guards opened the doors, and he entered the palace. He saw Hakim in the hallway.
"My king! Where were you?" Hakim bowed. Aladdin grabbed his shoulders and brought him back up.
"No bowing, please." The 'street rat' blow from Jamal was still doing its damage on Aladdin. Hakim chuckled.
"Just like the sultan, my king. Just like the sultan. Anyway, Hamed wants to speak with you," Hakim informed him. He walked away with Razoul and Fazan, two of his main guards.
Aladdin went to the former sultan's sleeping quarters. He knocked on the door. "Hamed, sir? It's me, Aladdin."
Hamed opened the door and smiled. "Aladdin! Come in, come in." Aladdin followed him inside the vast room and sat down in an armchair. Hamed sat across from him and crossed his legs.
"You wanted to speak with me?" Aladdin clarified.
Hamed nodded. "Yes, I do. I was curious if you were fully ready for your excursion to Skanland."
"Yeah, I am, but I'm worried Prince Anders is holding a grudge against me," Aladdin admitted, fidgeting.
Hamed frowned. "Why is that?"
"He's probably super jealous that a street rat like me married the one and only Princess Jasmine. Or, the new sultan of Agrabah."
"Nonsense. Aladdin, you are so much more than a street rat, understand? You have great potential as king of Agrabah, and I know you can accomplish many things. Just because you used to be a thief, doesn't mean you don't have any worth."
Aladdin smirked. "Used to? Who said anything about me quitting?" Hamed raised an eyebrow.
"Are you still stealing?"
"Well, mostly Abu. I'm trying to teach him to only steal when necessary, or to at least return the things he stole. Hasn't started working yet," Aladdin confessed.
Hamed chuckled. "I guess thieving is a skill you wouldn't want to get rid of. So, do you still steal?"
"I do, but I take the items to Zulla's shop, and the people can go there to get their stuff back."
"That is wise," Hamed agreed. "Anyway, remember the plan. You are going there to bargain with Prince Anders. We could use some strong allies, other than Shirabad. I'm going to have you take a trip to Shirabad in a few months."
"Alright. I will take my leave, if that is alright." Hamed nodded and Aladdin stood up. He pulled the doors open, and walked out. He jogged up the stairs and towards the sultan's bedroom. He knocked on the door. No one answered. He decided to wait, so he turned around and studied his feet.
"Hello?" A sweet voice said from the doors. Aladdin looked up and grinned when he saw his beautiful wife in the doorway. She had big, gorgeous hazel eyes and perfectly arched eyebrows. She had soft lips and a soft nose. Her luscious raven hair flowed down her back. She was wearing an teal gown, along with her jewelry.
"Hey, princess."
She pouted. "Where were you?" Aladdin chuckled and pulled her towards him, kissing her forehead in the process.
"Abu was causing trouble in the market again, sorry." Jasmine snuggled against Aladdin, her arms wrapped around him. Warmth immediately filled Aladdin, washing all of his worries away.
"Are you ready for tomorrow?" Jasmine asked quietly. Aladdin nodded. "I'm gonna miss you. Do you have to go?"
Aladdin laughed. "Yeah, I do. Agrabah needs this, princess. And you need to stay here so you can look after the kingdom. You are sultan, after all. But I'm gonna miss you too." Jasmine smiled at that and kissed his cheek.
"Good night, Ali."
"Night, princess."
