Hi there! I am back again to try my mind on another fanfiction. The idea for this book actually came to me in a dream and I just felt an itch to write it out, see where it takes me.

Hermione and Draco are back at Hogwarts, the year 1999. Read the end of the chapter to see a cliff hanger, wink. Fear not, we will get back to that point again.

This book will explore mature themes, including grief and trauma, but also love and sex.

I hope you like it, let me know your thoughts.

---------------------------------------------------------

March 8th, 1999

Hermione wakes up to the light shining through a crack between her curtains. She yawns and stretches.

Monday again.

Even though the weekends fly by because of all the activities she and her friends undertake, she always looks forward to getting back to class.

Some things never change.

Even when so much else has changed.

Not a day goes by without Hermione thinking about everything that happened last year. Everything and everyone they lost. It still feels like a hole in her chest.

She doubts it will ever go away.

The memories are there when she goes to sleep and they're there when she wakes.

It's a comfort knowing that she's not alone in this. She knows her friends are dealing with the same things, some worse than others.

Harry had been doing a lot worse. But recently he's been getting a bit better. He seems to be more present and like he's able to enjoy things again, even if it's for a short while.

The happiness is usually short lived.

Guilt and sadness usually descend quickly after a moment of joy.

Hermione knows the feeling well.

The guilt of being the one who survived. Of being the one who is still alive and breathing, while so many others aren't. The sadness of the friends and family lost.

After months the feelings still linger.

With that thought Hermione decides it's time to get up.

First she goes over to Crookshanks to give him a rub over his head. Every day she is grateful to still have him. Small favors.

She picks up her stuff and makes her way to one of the nearby shared bathrooms.

When Hermione returned at the beginning of the year they had expanded a branch of the school to make room for students returning to re-do their final year. They figured these students might want their own spaces. Not only might they have felt like they were too old to remain in the assigned rooms of their houses, they probably needed it to deal with everything. Plus, they were extra students on top of the regular final year students, so there wasn't a lot of space for them in their respective houses to begin with.

It made sense.

Hermione, at least, was grateful for the decision.

It meant she had her own small room in a corridor with other students, and there were several shared bathrooms, similar to the prefects bathroom. Quite a luxury.

Being an early riser meant that Hermione usually was one of the first to arrive to the bathrooms so she didn't have to wait for anyone.

She makes her way into the bathroom she normally uses and moves to the showers on the right. With her wand she starts one of the showers.
