CHAPTER 22

Bradley

Max stood beside me as Val took over the microphone. She smiled giddily at the both of us. "Hello everyone," her voice riffled through the hundreds of people. "My name is Val Katz. One thing that many of you don't know is that I am a fucking lesbian."

If you weren't sure what sentence could snap the chatter of hundreds, you do now.

"That's right. How many of you care?" No one fiddled with her speech. No one raised their hands. "Great! Bradley, care to join me up here?"

Max squeezed my hand. "I'm right here. Go up there, darling."

I smiled sheepishly. I went up to the microphone, it was then that the chatter began again. All the sentences had my name in them. "This is Bradley Uppercrust III. Bradley," Val passed me the microphone. "I believe if you are ready, you have something to say to the crowd."

I looked out to the crowd. I saw my father, a displeased look on his face. My mother was sobbing behind him. They were never going to truly support my relationship with Max. It didn't matter how many people we had behind us, they were homophobic. Simple as that. "Hello," I said confidently. "My boyfriend's here, and he's real fucking awesome. My parents," I pointed to them. All eyes swapped from us to them. They hid themselves. "Don't support us. They believe that I can only be loved by a woman but I've experienced more love by Max than any woman I've ever met."

Someone hidden within the people began cheering. "I'm here with my girlfriend," the woman shouted. I smiled.

"I would have brought my boyfriend if he could have made it," a huskier man cheered.

It felt like a weight was taken off my shoulders. Val and I weren't alone. No, there were some of us out there. They were waiting for someone else to speak up. It felt all too good when my parents looked like cowards. After the initial hate on them died down, they ran off. They'd appear later, but for tonight, this was Val's and I's victory party.

Max and I weren't afraid of who would see. There would always be someone to hate on us, but, I wasn't alone. I was with Max, and I thought we could beat anyone. Nothing could break us apart.

Or, so I thought.

The day of the party, but, also the day that Max Goof would be in a car accident, killing him and putting me in a long coma.

- Max's darling
