Dear Diary, warning for self-harm.

Here's what happened today.

1/6/24

❁ ❁ ❁

My eyes snap open, and I realize that I had dozed off at some point. I groan and grab my aching head. I can hear people outside the room speaking, but it only sounds like quiet murmurs to me. I sit up, feeling a little wobbly as I do. Andrés walks in with a plate of food and my senses immediately fill with the scent of fresh pancakes and syrup.

His lips quirk into a smile when he sees me awake. "You hungry?" He heads over to me and places the tray on his nightstand.

I nod and greedily grab a pancake. "I'm sorry that I freaked out, you shouldn't have to deal with my shit." I take a bite.

He sits on the edge of the bed next to my legs. "I don't mind, you know? If I didn't want to listen to you then I wouldn't." He looks over at me, his bright, amber eyes filled with an unreadable emotion. "I want you to talk to me. No matter how depressing it is."

I smile and swallow the piece of pancake. "What time is it?"

He looks at his phone. "Like ten thirty, why?" I frown as he scans my expression.

I cover my mouth with my palm as I speak through a mouthful of pancake. His face contorts in disgust, and I definitely deserve that look while eating like that. "Is your mom home? I should probably leave soon." His eyes flicker with disappointment.

He focuses on something else, turning away from me in the process. "Uh, yeah. She's home." His head tips back towards me, and I watch as his black curls fall over his eyes. He smirks before speaking with a playful bite in his tone. "Why? You want to leave me, El?"

I swallow whatever food I have left in my mouth and roll my eyes with a huff. despite my mask of irritation, a smile of my own slips through. "Obviously, Andy." My green, gem-like irises dance with mischief while his light up.

"Don't call me that." His head snaps in my direction, a clear warning to not continue.

I set the tray aside and lean forward. My eyes narrow as my grin grows and I keep pressing. "Why not?"

"How would you like it if I made fun of your family?" He stands up, bending over me to grab the tray.

I tilt my head and stand with him. "I don't know if my family is the best example, but I see your point." I smirk one last time and walk to the door. "Sorry, Andy." And I wink at him before leaving.

My heart races as I run off as fast as I can to an empty hallway.

Why did I fucking wink at him!? You don't just wink at people, Ellis! I can't believe-

My thoughts are cut off by someone clearing their throat. At some point I had sunken my body to the floor against the wall. I look up from the ground and see the same girl from before. Andrés' sister.

"Hi." I keep my expression blank as I stare up at her. "Uhm, Selene, right?"

Her glossy lips form into a smirk similar to her sibling's. "Sophia."

"Close enough." I shrug.

She offers me her hand and I use it to stand. "What're you doing out here?" She questions as she leans her side on her door frame.

I blurt out almost immediately. "I winked at your brother." My eyes widen and I cover my mouth.

She bursts out laughing, though it's not as rich of a sound coming from her compared to Andrés. "Oh my God!"
