I start running through the halls. I search for an empty room to hide in, since this is probably just a fire drill, and I'm sure the fire wouldn't reach me anyway. When I finally find one, I slip inside and sit on the floor. I listen to the Wulfsong song, "Wolves on Fire."
Flaming canine
You are fine
Teeth sharp
Like hunting knives
Burn me down
To the ground
Wolves on fire
All around
My music is so loud that I don't hear anything happen in the outer world. I can hear lava bubbling and stuff on the inner world, though, so that's pretty weird. But my sight is still there, and I see when the lights flick on that two people have entered. One of the cheerleaders, I think his name is Kevin, and a green girl who I don't know.
"AAAh zombie!!" Kevin screams. He punches the girl in the face.
What did he mean by zombie? Zombies aren't real.
"AAH!" The girl screams. Her nose is bleeding profusely.
Instead of helping her or something, the Kevin takes a pocket knife out and stabs her in the chest repeatedly.
"I. DO. NOT. TOLERATE. ZOMBIES. IN. MY. SHCOOL!" He punctuates each word with a stab.
The girl obviously dies.
"Hey man why did you do that?" I ask.
Kevin looks at me. I guess he didn't know I was there.
"What are you doing in here!?!?!" He screams.
I hold up my arms in surrender. "Calm down, Kevin."
Me saying this reminds me of that Wulfsong song, "Calm Down, Kevin."
Oh Kevin
Please calm down
You just killed a girl
Blood all around
Wolves howl from the loss of life
They prowl around the woods
So calm down Kevin
Because you know you should
Once the song is done, I take out my earbuds to hear the rest of Kevin's threats.
"-And I'll kill your parents and I'll kill your pets and I'll kill your Grandma-"
I hold up my hand. "Why don't I just help you with the body?"
Kevin smiles. "That would be great, thanks!"
Kevin finds a rug in the room and we roll the girl up in it. There's blood on the rug when we're done, but the rolled-up girl is easier to carry. We each take one side and carry her out the back entrance of Seabrook High.
"Hey, with her all rolled up, she kind of looks like a mighty shrimp! Maybe she wasn't so bad after all." Kevin mentions.
"Too bad you already killed her, Kev." I say.
Kevin sighs. "Yeah."
We find a rusty shovel in the woods. This reminds me of the song from Wulfsong called "Rusty Shovel in the Woods." I play it for both of us.
Rusty shovel
In the woods
What are you up to?
Nothing good
Wolves are digging
A big pit
They put their dreams
Into it
When the song finishes the girl says, "Great song!"
Kev looks at us sadly because he missed out on the song.
I grab the shovel and start digging. I'm pretty good at digging. I guess it's just one of my many hobbies. I do get a lot of dirt on my fashionable ripped jeans, though, so maybe not an everyday hobby. Pretty soon I have a round hole the height and diameter of my shovel.
"That's a pretty weird hole for a grave." Kevin says.
"Well I didn't see you helping." I reply. It's true, I have selective blindness.
Anyway, we toss the girl into the hole and cover her back up. Kevin takes a notebook clearly labeled "TALLY MARK OF BODIES I'VE BURIED" out of his pocket. He opens to the middle of it and adds another mark onto a page already overed with marks.
"What?" He asks defensively when he sees me staring. I shrug. "Oh, I've only killed half these people. The rest I've just buried." He says.
The sun has started setting, and we hear some wolves howl. Kevin yelps and runs away, but I'm intrigued. These howls are pretty good, better than what I can do. I howl back and run into the woods.
"Hello?" I call out. "Howl-o?" I see a shadow flash through the trees. It has become night time.
"Hey! We're wolves and WE own the night!" I hear a girl call out. I can't fully see her, because it's dark, but she's standing in front of me.
"Well, I've always thought of myself as wolfish." I say. I howl loudly and it's pretty good if I do say so myself. And I do.
The girl walks back and forth. In the glinting moonlight, I can see her hair is very fluffy with a white streak in it. She finally decides what she's going to do and stops in front of me.
"What's your name?" She demands.
"Wynston. Wynston Wolff." I reply.
She smiles. "I'm Willa. And yeah, I'm a werewolf."
