Atlas didn't sleep long. He also didn't have a very deep sleep. He was on edge the entire time. When the sun rose, he opened his eyes. He felt exhausted, reminding him again that he was in another world and that it wasn't a dream.
He didn't allow himself to dwell on it. If he thought about it too much, he would begin to miss the life he used to have. He missed his bed, missed his parents, and missed cooking breakfast for them before going to work. He also missed his brother, a dog he had in his childhood. He hadn't thought about his dog brother for a long time, but he really missed his brother, Sir Walter. He wondered if Sir Walter was having fun in dog heaven... or the afterlife.
Atlas sighed. He missed the days that he felt were boring and repetitive. He wanted nothing more than to go back to those days without hardship.
Now he was stuck in a forest, lost, surrounded by dangerous creatures without another human in sight.
Atlas decided he was going to look for that massive tree again. His plans were interrupted yesterday, but it didn't change his goals. That was the only landmark he could get to even if it took some time. In a sea of trees, the biggest tree was the easiest to spot.
He was hungry... but at least he had water.
He went to the top of the closest tree and surprisingly saw that the massive tree was a lot closer this time. While being chased by that White Star bear, he had picked a random direction to run in. This was his first time picking the right direction!
Maybe the blessings from those two Gods are working, he thought to himself.
Atlas continued his journey while appraising plants and fruits. He put them in his item box that froze time, so he didn't have to worry about things going bad.
There weren't a lot of fruits but there were a lot of plants. Whatever was used for medicine or could be eaten, he picked up a couple before moving on. He munched on an edible fruit that looked like a peach but tasted like apples. According to his appraisal ability, it was still called an "apple" though. Well, maybe things were getting lost in translation, considering he didn't know this world's language...
He walked for 6 hours, taking his time, checking his location, and picking up fruits and plants. He eventually got to the large clearing where the giant tree stood.
The giant tree was even bigger than a General Sherman tree, especially in diameter. There was a light breeze that rustled the leaves in the tree, and the air carried a fresh crisp smell that was free from pollution. There was no other life in the clearing except for the grass and this tree. There wasn't even the chirping of birds or buzzing of bugs. He felt a strange feeling of ease like this place was safe and no one would hurt him there.
At the base of the tree was a large hollow, like someone—or something—had carved out a place to sleep. The ground under the tree was slightly raised so Atlas wouldn't have to worry about rain flooding the hollow. If he put a board in front of the hole, it could even protect him from the cold winds.
At least for now, it was the perfect place to call home.
With a large hollow large enough for him to stand and sleep in, he knew this tree was old, but it seemed to be healthy. There was no visible fungus growing inside of it, and it was relatively easy to clean the fallen leaves out of it. He just needed to pad the ground with something so he wasn't sleeping on the dirt...
Atlas checked his inventory. He had the fur of the white star, but the fur was so soft, he didn't want to get it dirty. Should he try to battle other monsters after he learns to control his magic? He also needed to gauge how much magic he could safely use so he wouldn't faint again...
