2nd pov.

Nights on your home planet passed like the sand in an hourglass. It had been a long time
since you were there. There was longing in your gaze as you glanced up in the nightsky. The dozens of sparks in the sky remembered you of the city lights.

A squeeze on your shoulder made your thoughts return to their clarity. You turned your head sideways to gaze at your boss, the hero, Caelus.

He smiled, "Hey, Y/n." he sat down into the cool prickling sand. He eyed you as you drew a tiny heart into the sand. It was a trivial detail about you, but he knew you longed for deeper connections. Not a lot of people could say with confidence that they had known the core of your desires to this day.

He was one of the few selected people. If he were blunt about it, he'd pat himself on his shoulder for making you open up throughout your friendship. Still, despite that, he wasn't a bad friend.

On the contrary.

"Hey, favorite boss." You smiled.

"Ow, I missed that opening," he pretended to heave a sigh, "favorite sidekick."

The smirk he wore was irreplaceable. You'd never be able to get it out of your head. This greeting was like breathing, something almost mandatory.

A little ritual between the two of you, as old as time.

"Only sidekick," you corrected. There weren't others, and if there were.. they'd be gone in less than an hour. Not to speak ill of your superior. Of course, you wouldn't do that, but some might avoid a collaboration as far as you noticed since he was a bit inconsistent about his work ethics.

You'd always be able to count on the sterling haired hero when it became urgent. No one was perfect, neither was he.

If you could change one trivial detail through whatever power preserved by the universe, you'd add a speck of work ethic to his character.

At least that was what you told yourself. You deeply adored his friendship despite all the hardships.

He smiled, "Yeah, my only sidekick, and yet out of everyone I've met, you happen to be my favorite."

That was probably the truth.

Your lips eased into a smile, "Thanks, Boss."

He nudged you with a deadpan. "For you, it's still Caelus."

This.

This was definitely the reason that he would always find a place in your heart no matter how troubled you became when certain topics threw you off the path.

He managed to make you smile. His words made you at ease.

As you continued to draw little sand figures into the ground, he bit his lip. Caelus wasn't necessarily gifted in gentle communication.
