The day slowly draws to a close as the sky darkens outside. The house is bathed in the warm glow of evening, a peaceful calm settling over the space.
William sits on the couch in the living room, a stack of papers and documents spread out on the coffee table in front of him. He's been working on them for quite some time, his brow furrowed in concentration. Every now and then, his gaze drifts to the clock on the wall, tracking the passage of time.
He looks up from his work as you enter, a hint of surprise in his eyes. He's not used to having you here while he's working, but he doesn't mind the interruption. He knows firsthand how pregnancy affects your emotions and behavior.
"Hey, love. Can't sleep?"
He smiles at you warmly, his expression softened by your presence.
You shake your head as you sit next to him as he pushes his paperwork aside, shifting his attention to you. He watches as you settle onto the couch beside him, his eyes taking in your tired, but adorable, face.
"You're supposed to be resting, remember?" he teases gently, a playful smirk on his face.
"I am. I'm not doing anything."
William snorts lightly, a small chuckle escaping his lips as he shakes his head in amusement.
"Right, because sitting here while I work counts as resting," he teases back, his tone lighthearted.
"Well it is."
He laughs softly, his eyes gleaming with affectionate amusement. He reaches out and gently pokes your side, his touch playful.
"Is that so? I thought resting meant actually lying down in bed and getting some sleep."
"That's not the only option and you know it."
William grins, thoroughly enjoying the playful banter between the two of you. He squeezes your hand gently as you intertwine your fingers with his.
"I suppose that's true," he concedes with a smirk, the amusement evident in his eyes. "So, the pregnant wife needs some company while her hardworking husband is stuck doing paperwork, hm?"
"Yeah."
He chuckles again, his heart swelling with affection for you. He tightens his grip slightly on your hand, his fingers gently rubbing against yours.
"Well, I suppose I can understand that," he says, his tone filled with mock resignation. He glances back at the stack of paperwork on the coffee table, then back at you, a hint of playful defiance in his voice.
"But I do have work to finish, you know."
"I'm not going to distract you, promise."
William smirks, clearly not fully believing your promise. But he plays along, knowing that arguing with a pregnant woman is futile.
"Alright, I'll take your word for it," he says with a chuckle. He looks back at the paperwork, grabbing a pen and seemingly getting back to work.
He glances over at you periodically as he works, noticing the steady rise and fall of your chest as you drift off to sleep. A small smile tugs at his lips, his heart warmed by the sight of you dozing off beside him.
As he continues working, William eventually gets so absorbed in his paperwork that he almost forgets you're there. It's not until he looks over at you again that he realizes you've fallen asleep, your head resting against the back of the couch. He pauses, putting his pen down and studying your peaceful expression.
William takes a moment to just watch you sleep, a tender smile on his face. He can't help but feel both endeared and amused by how quickly you fell asleep. He knows that pregnancy is taking a toll on your body, making you tired more easily.
