I waited at our camp for Robert. I had eviscerated the worker drone to look at the components. I managed to pull out an i5-4590. Outdated tech. I was surprised that these seemingly complex drones were running off of 2010-era technology.

They seemed to be some form of artificial intelligence, so I assumed that they had a NPU somewhere. I would need to take apart more of these interesting drones in order to study them and their... parts.

I got up from the small rock that I was sitting on, and walked towards the fire pit. The temperature had dropped significantly yesterday, so right now I was essentially a walking talking popsicle.

I grabbed some dead brush laying next to the firepit that we had left behind, and lit it. I piled on some smaller sticks and logs and waited for Robert to return, while cleaning the CPU I had pulled out with a small cloth.

Robert's POV

We had split up. Y/N had left towards the library, and I decided to check out the small apartments near this main road.

I found one that looked promising, as it was still standing and the walls were mainly intact. I tried to pull the door open, but it wouldn't budge. I put my foot against the wall and tried again, pulling even harder this time.

And it worked. The door swung open with a loud and violent 'POP' and I was flung backwards a few feet. I got back up, and dusted myself off. I looked inside, and saw a small humanoid figure standing in the doorframe. It looked shocked and terrified, and then it ran.

What a bizarre little creature. I walked inside and yeah, it looked like they were living there. A small lantern near the table was lit, and there were little toys and objects on tables. A collector, probably.

After exploring a bit more, I decided that this was a good spot to move our camp.

Narrator POV

Robert walked back to the current camp with a map in his hand. He had gotten it from the apartment. Luckily, the actual landscape and buildings weren't too off from what the map depicted, so it worked just fine.

Y/N sat on the log, cooking the second set of rations. One more day of rations remained. The last of the water was also there, being heated in the foldable pot.

Robert sat down on the log facing opposite of Y/N's and sighed.

They warmed up by the fire for a while before Robert broke the silence.

"So what did you find?" He asked, putting down the map.

It was a while before Y/N responded.

"It's all in here," they said as they passed the notepad to Robert. He nods, taking a brief glimpse at it before putting it in his pocket to read later.

"How about you? What did you find?" Y/N asked Robert, who was picking up his water bottle.

"Apartment. I was thinking of moving camp there so we don't have to build a shelter ourselves," Robert said as he drank from his bottle.

"Nice. I'll take a look and then we'll decide whether to move there or not. We'll also need some water."

Robert sighed and put down his water. He then picked up his small packet of rations and looked inside. A small, sad portion of 'fried fish' as labeled on the packet. Barely looked fried, let alone like fish.
