I slowly opened my eyes, greeted by the soft morning light of the snow. As I shifted, I felt the warmth of the bed and the gentle weight of the covers. Turning my head, I found Vervain lying beside me.
Gising na siya. May malambot na ngiti sa labi.
She was stroking my hair lovingly while tucking it back behind my ear. I groaned and closed back my eyes.
"What time is it?" I mumbled and shifted my position. Tumalikod ako sa kanya bago inayos ang kumot. I felt her hands snaked around my waist and pulled me closer to her. Her chin rested on top of my head and I could feel her chest behind my bare back.
Kagat labi akong pumikit at pinigilan ang pagtili. Baklang 'to. Nakakahiya! Ang hirap magpanggap. Takte! At talagang nadiligan!
"It's quarter to seven, Carmine."
May bahid ng kaba ang ang kanyang boses. Good! I thought it was only me. Well I admit how I didn't thought of this thoroughly before succumbing to temptation.
We stayed in that position for a few minutes and embraced the silence. As if we have the same thing in mind. She has no idea how my whole system is crashing already.
When I entered this world, my life seemed to change in so different ways. The simple routine that I got used to has turned into something else- something that might be dangerous... A game.
"Good morning," she said in a hushed voice.
"Good morning," I replied meekly.
My heart swelled with affection when I saw her eyes. She reached out and brushed a strand of hair away from my face, her touch became my favorite thing in this world. "Princess, about last night."
I couldn't help but look away. Gumawa pa ako ng eksena kagabi na ayaw ko na may kasama sa kama pero heto, nga-nga. It's too soon for me to eat my own words.
Her fingers traced a delicate line along my jaw when I wasn't paying attention.
"I'm so sorry you have to see me like that." I trailed off.
She didn't reply. She could only nod her head. She was back with her stoic expression again.
D-Did I do something wrong? Did she realize something? Out of impulse, bumangon ako sa kama habang hawak ang kumot. She did the same and stared at the void.
"We'll get back to the palace shortly once you're done preparing here. Wala ng bagyo. The Princes must be dead worried waiting for you."
Teka, did she think that I would think of this only as a one-night stand? I smirked at that thought and daydreamed about teasing her but I'm afraid I can't. Vervain has been only doing her duties. I might forget, that she's the Captain, the finest Captain I've ever seen. Baka wala sa oras machugi na naman ako.
I pressed my chest at her bare back and wrapped my arms around her neck. Ramdam ko kung paano siya nagitla. Does she dislike it? She's not shoving me off though.
"Carmine..." she mutters in a low voice.
"I've always wanted to do this," I whispered.
She finally looks at me. My fingers traced around the star freckles on her cheeks. She caught my hands. I frowned at her.
"My freckles? Really? What's next?"
"Your eyes," I blurted out.
Shit. I was thinking out loud. Her mouth gaped a bit because of me being straightforward.
"Nevermind," bawi ko.
Bumalikwas ako ng bangon at tumayo. My back shivered when I felt a pair of eyes pierced through my naked body. It bore right into me and I could melt by now.
